As the day comes to a close, BCSD will never forget the lives lost and the heroes of September 11, 2001.

BCSD students were out in full force at the Charleston Battery's "Kick Childhood Cancer" game! Not only did Philip Simmons High's AFJROTC present the colors before the game, Philip Simmons Elementary's Chloe Younce did the coin flip.

To help ignite a love for reading, teachers often invite special guests into the classroom to read aloud with the students. In honor of International Literacy Day, Keshia Kelly’s third grade class at Berkeley Elementary received such a guest: Superintendent Dr. Anthony Dixon swung by to read “Double Trouble in Walla Walla!"
Everything is better with a buddy. To work on constructing different types of grammatically correct sentences, Bowen's Corner Elementary's first and third grade students paired up to practice their writing skills today. 📝#makingapositivedifference #InternationalLiteracyDay

Reminder: Berkeley County School District schools and offices will be closed for Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 1! Additionally, tomorrow is a half day for all students.

It's the best day of the year! Welcome back, everybody!

Classrooms are starting to come together! Our teachers can't wait to have students back walking the halls in two days!

At our most recent board meeting, there were a lot of people wearing blue and gold! Berkeley High's baseball team was recognized by the BCSD Board of Education for its state title win this spring! Plus, Co-Presidents Keller Wofford and Jace Dye represented the BHS Beta Club and were congratulated for the club's National Beta Convention first place finish!

Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate the start of the new school year at the OneBerkeley Back to School Festival!
This morning's event was held at the Moncks Corner Regional Recreation Complex with thousands of attendees who enjoyed a bookbag distribution, face painting, jump castles, visiting food trucks and more . Kelly Services was this year's lead Bronze Sponsor, and Planned Administrators, Inc. was the Patron Sponsor.

Congratulations to Viola Mitchell on winning the Bus Driver Longevity Award from the South Carolina Association for Pupil Transportation! This coming school year will be Viola's 50th behind the wheel! What motivates her to stick with it? She loves being with the kids!

Our students took home some hefty hardware from the Future Business Leaders of America National Leadership Conference! Because they placed within the Top 10, Berkeley High's Jayden Moorer and Cane Bay High's Sophia Tiwari are winners on the national stage. They are also the only two high school students from South Carolina to accomplish this feat!

Teaching takes a lot of heart! At Monday night's board meeting, we recognized our 12 South Carolina Teaching Fellows, plus one student who was named an alternate, for pursuing a future career in the classroom.

In a short time, Karmello Jones has already made a name for himself. He excels on the football field, was Cross High's Class of 2025 salutatorian and was one of 750 students nationally selected for the highly-coveted Gates Scholarship. To celebrate him being a Gates Scholar, Karmello was recognized for this incredible accomplishment at our most recent board meeting.
