
Teaching takes a lot of heart! At Monday night's board meeting, we recognized our 12 South Carolina Teaching Fellows, plus one student who was named an alternate, for pursuing a future career in the classroom.


In a short time, Karmello Jones has already made a name for himself. He excels on the football field, was Cross High's Class of 2025 salutatorian and was one of 750 students nationally selected for the highly-coveted Gates Scholarship. To celebrate him being a Gates Scholar, Karmello was recognized for this incredible accomplishment at our most recent board meeting.

Our retirees made a positive difference in Berkeley County! Last Thursday, we celebrated our 88 retirees with a reception at Cypress Gardens. We can't thank these folks enough for dedicating their professional lives to serving our students.

Track and field students weren't the only state champions we had in the board room on Monday! Philip Simmons High's boys golf team was represented by Coach Garrick and recognized by the board for winning a state championship, too!

Whether its pole vaulting, the high jump or running as fast as their feet can carry them, these students excelled at the track and field state meet this year! At our most recent board meeting, we invited all our individual track and field state champions and Philip Simmons High's girls track team to come and be celebrated.

We've got some rock star readers at Westview Elementary and Hanahan Middle! Both schools were named i-Ready Super Schools for achieving the most growth in their i-Ready reading scores over the spring semester.

Congratulations to Carolyn Lewis School and Cainhoy Elementary on being named i-Ready Super Schools! Throughout the second semester, both schools showed the most growth in their i-Ready math scores.

Wow, Emily Bohl at Goose Creek High is a 🌟SUPERSTAR🌟 school communicator! Over the course of the spring semester, she sent 9,507 Rooms messages. Because of her dedication to keeping parents and students informed, Emily got a bag of district swag and four tickets to the RiverDogs!

Cane Bay High's AFJROTC unit ended this year on a high note by being recognized at this week's board meeting for receiving the "Sword of Excellence" by the South Carolina Air Force Association. This award annually goes to the best AFJROTC unit in the state.

Representing District 8, Jerald Borden was sworn in at the start of last night's board meeting.



Graduation season is officially upon us! Today, high school seniors around the district revisited their old stomping grounds to reflect on their time in BCSD and inspire our younger students.

These bus drivers show up and show out for our students every single day, literally. Yesterday, we held a surprise party for all our bus drivers who had PERFECT attendance this school year. Again, thank you for always being there for our students! 💛

#DYK: Nationally, roughly 10 percent of recent high school graduates enlist in the military? These BCSD students have proudly taken up the mantle to protect and serve our country and attended the Military Honor Cord Ceremony hosted by Superintendent of Education Ellen Weaver and SCDE this week.

Our FBLA students from Berkeley Middle, Berkeley High, Cane Bay High, Cross High and Timberland High took care of business at this year's State Leadership Conference! All first place finishers were recognized at our most recent board meeting.

Nurses are the beating heart of healthcare. To celebrate #NationalSchoolNurseDay, BCSD Nursing Services delivered solar-powered Bluetooth headphones to our school nurses for providing outstanding care to all our students! Keep up the great work, ladies!

The future of the healthcare industry looks bright with these students at the helm. At yesterday's board meeting, we recognized all our HOSA students who won first place in individual or group competitions at the HOSA State Leadership Conference and Hanahan High's Audrianna Amara who was elected South Carolina HOSA State Secretary.

Today is Principal Appreciation Day! Our school principals are an integral part of helping us make a positive difference in Berkeley County. They lead our schools with positivity, heart and determination.


We've got some accomplished kids in BCSD! Last night, Stratford High's JROTC archery team, Hanahan High's "Hawk's Eye View" and Nina Nassyrov from Philip Simmons Middle were recognized by our school board for their competition wins on the state and national level.
