
Dr. Dixon swung by Nexton Elementary’s Guys in Ties group today to speak to the boys about his role as a school superintendent. Guys in Ties is led by fourth grade teacher Ryan Cummings and has about 14 members ranging from third to fifth grade. The group focuses on basic manners and social skills and meets every week after school.




The BCSD Student, Teacher, and Parent Climate Surveys window opened on Monday March 3rd and will close Friday March 21st. All students in grades 3-12 and all teachers, librarians, guidance counselors, ROTC instructors, career specialists, and speech therapists are expected to participate in the survey. All parents are encouraged to participate. They survey can be found in the PowerSchool Parent Portal.

Due to severe weather forecasts, including high winds during morning transportation that could impact the safe operation of school buses, all Berkeley County School District schools and offices will be closed on Wednesday, March 5.
Before and after school care programs are canceled for Wednesday, March 5. As current forecasts indicate improved midday conditions, extracurricular activities and athletic events may be permitted to resume. Specific information concerning extracurricular activities and athletics will be shared directly by school leadership.
Per the BCSD instructional calendar, the designated inclement weather make-up day is Monday, April 21, 2025.
Please note, Wednesday, March 5 cannot be designated as an eLearning day, as all five allowable eLearning days have already been used this school year.
BCSD closely monitors weather conditions in partnership with Berkeley County Emergency Management and the National Weather Service. District leadership may make further adjustments to school operations as necessary.

In honor of Black History Month, Superintendent Dixon paid Westview Primary a visit to read a biographical children’s book about Harriet Tubman, an American hero who escaped slavery and helped save other enslaved people via the Underground Railroad.

Congratulations to Bowen's Corner Elementary and Daniel Island School on being named i-Ready Super Schools! Throughout the first semester, both schools showed the most growth in their i-Ready math scores.

Our teachers were hard at work today learning about new ways to better lead their classrooms and support BCSD students. This annual professional development day, known as Conference Day, is a chance to provide teachers with tools and resources to help set students up for success.

Superintendent Dixon regularly does learning walks with our school principals around their campus to experience the day-to-day environment at our schools, sometimes even with board members in tow. Recently, Dr. Dixon took a tour of Stratford High with Angelina Davenport.

We had a fin-tastic time at the ribbon cutting for the Boeing Learning Lab at the Charleston Maritime Center! Four of our students will be making waves teaching the community and mentoring other South Carolina Aquarium high school interns at the Learning Lab this summer.
