School counselors amplify student success! National School Counseling Week 2026 (Feb. 2-6), sponsored by the American School Counselor Association, highlights the essential contribution of school counselors to a school system. Every student deserves a school counselor to help with academic achievement strategies, managing emotions, applying interpersonal skills and planning for postsecondary options. Be sure to thank a school counselor this week for everything they do to support their school and students!

We were all smiles this week as Brandy Incorvia of Santee Cooper presented a generous check that will have a powerful impact on our STEM/STEAM and CTE programs. At last night's board meeting, we recognized those who have demonstrated athletic excellence in Berkeley County School District with Philip Simmons High’s cross country teams and BCSD’s Shrine Bowl selections. Not only did the Iron Horses sprint to another state title last November, Avah Mallek was selected to run on the Shrine Bowl’s cross country team, too. Speaking of the Shrine Bowl, BCSD was well represented at the game this year with coaches and players chosen from five of our high schools.

Congratulations again to the following:
- Coach Lee Taylor (Goose Creek High)
- Caden Ramsey (Cross High)
- Zion Britt and Gehad Sneed (Berkeley High)
- Jachin Davis and Meliq McGowan (Stratford High)
- Desmond Green (Timberland High)

With all the holiday hoopla, it's a nice break to snuggle up with a blanket and unwind with a good book!
