Congratulations to Brittany DelSignore on being selected as a quarterfinalist for the 2027 Music Educator Award, presented by the Recording Academy and GRAMMY Museum. This award recognizes music educators across the country who have made significant contributions to music education and their school communities. Under her leadership, a culture of excellence and pride has been fostered within Berkeley High's band program. We wish Mrs. DelSignore the best of luck in the next round of the selection process!

It's not every day our students get to perform beside world-renowned musicians. In their final concert of the semester, Goose Creek Steel Bands played with the First Citizens Supernovas Steel Orchestra from Trinidad and Tobago. Featured on National Geographic Travelers Magazine, the Supernovas Steel Orchestra is a dynamic musical group known for their eclectic repertoire, and they're consistently finalist in the National Panorama Steel Band competition.
Our Betas can't be beat! At last night's Board of Education meeting, we recognized all our BCSD Betas who won first place in individual or group competitions at the South Carolina Senior Beta Convention. Good luck to this terrific group of students at National Beta Convention in June!

We've got some promising young artists in BCSD! Selected by students' art teachers, the Board Art Show displays the incredible artwork our students produce throughout the school year. Following the show, the chosen pieces decorate our central office so everyone can see the amazing artistic talent in Berkeley County. 🎨
A trophy just wasn't enough...bring out the banner! In recognition of being selected as a South Carolina Blue Ribbon School, Cross High was presented with a new school banner to celebrate this incredible accomplishment and to remind current and future students of what they can achieve when they really put their mind to it. Poetry is kind of a big ~dill~ at Philip Simmons High! To get students interested in reading poetry during #NationalPoetryMonth, PSH's school librarian, Constance McClanahan, challenges students to check out a book of poetry for a pickle. By the end of the month, Dr. McClanahan goes through jars of kosher dills!
WOW! Students in our Take the Lead mentoring program raised $6,000 in support of the Ronald McDonald House in downtown Charleston, which is TRIPLE the amount they donated last year. Kudos to all our mentees on this incredible achievement —especially those from Cane Bay High, who donated the most to this special cause.
Our Head Start students are purpling up for military kids! Our Office of Student Support Services, which is essential to supporting our military families as they transition to living in Berkeley County, hosted a cookout at the Fishburne Educational Center in celebration of Month of the Military Child. 💜

April is Month of the Military Child! With 85 percent of Marrington Elementary's student population coming from military families, this month is always a big deal at MNE. Today, students and staff were rocking their purple to show support for military kids.
Things are fin-tastic at Macedonia Middle! In honor of Earth Day today, students in Mrs. Kiser's science class made fish prints, showing that nature really is a work of art. 🐠
We have some superstar student athletes in BCSD! Our two basketball state champion teams, Berkeley High's Lady Stags and Philip Simmons High's Iron Horses, were recognized by the Board of Education at last night's meeting. We are so proud of everything these students have accomplished on and off the court.
REMINDER: To ensure our young learners and families are set up for success, every BCSD school with a kindergarten program will host a Kick-Off to Kindergarten event next week! School administrators and staff will be on site to answer any questions parents may have about their school's kindergarten program and conduct school tours.
