🏅 At last night's board meeting, we were proud to once again celebrate the incredible athletic excellence across Berkeley County as we recognized our individual and team Track & Field State Champions!
This year, student-athletes from Philip Simmons, Goose Creek, Timberland, Hanahan, and Stratford captured individual state championships. Philip Simmons girls and boys track teams also won a state title.

We are so proud of these students for choosing to have a career in the classroom! At Monday night's board meeting, we recognized our 13 South Carolina Teaching Fellows for pursuing a career in education. Again, congratulations to Cane Bay High for having the most recipients in the state from a single school!






The Berkeley County School District (BCSD) administration presented the first reading of the proposed 2026-2027 General Fund Budget to the Board of Education on June 15, outlining a fiscally responsible spending plan that strengthens student learning and supports, invests in employees, and meets the needs of one South Carolina’s fastest-growing school districts, without increasing taxes on Berkeley County taxpayers. Our Future Business Leaders of America students from Berkeley Middle, Berkeley High and Timberland High took care of business at this year's State Leadership Conference! All first place finishers were recognized at our most recent board meeting.









Welcome to the hive! We had a another great turnout at our ribbon cutting ceremony at Bee Tree Elementary! BTE will be welcoming its founding Bees this August.




The Astros are ready for takeoff! Last night's ribbon cutting at Midtown Middle was out of this world with a huge turnout from the Nexton community!

These people chose the next phase of their career to take place in a classroom, and for that we couldn't be more grateful. Yesterday, we celebrated our alternative certification program participants across BCSD!
Cane Bay Middle is fit and fabulous! CBM claimed the Grand Prize at this year's BCSD Wellness Team Awards and received $2,000 to go toward its wellness initiatives. Overall, the MUSC Boeing Center for Children’s Wellness donated $22, 300 to participating BCSD schools. Awesome job, Cobras!


Congratulations to Cainhoy Elementary and Westview Primary for being our second semester's i-Ready Super Schools! CHE showed the most growth in its i-Ready ELA scores, and this is third consecutive semester the Tigers have been named an i-Ready Super School. For the first time, Westview Primary is receiving the i-Ready banner after showing the most growth in their i-Ready math scores!

Hanahan High's softball team is state bound! They'll be facing off against Crescent High in a best-of-three series for the state title. Fly high, Hawkettes!
Ready...set...PLAY! Devon Forest Elementary is the site of BCSD's newest inclusive playground! Special services students and their general education buddies got to break in the playground at a special ribbon cutting ceremony last Thursday.
In honor of Memorial Day, all BCSD schools and offices are closed today, May 25. Students will return to school Tuesday, May 26.

Along with our students, Meagan Brooks, our 2026 District Teacher of the Year, was also recognized by the board on Monday for being selected as this year's BCSD TOY. Meagan was gifted a banner to display at Cane Bay Elementary to celebrate her accomplishment and the Judy Rainey Passion Project Scholarship in the amount of $1,000, which she can elect to spend on any project supporting student success at CBE.


We've got some accomplished kids in BCSD! Last night, Stratford High's JROTC archery team, Hanahan High's "Hawk's Eye View" and a delegation from Cane Bay High's AFJROTC unit stopped by the board meeting to be recognized for meeting incredible milestones throughout the school year.
For the second year in a row, Stratford High's archery team won the South Carolina NASP State Championship in two divisions, Bullseye and 3-D. Cane Bay High's AFJROTC was applauded for receiving the Sword of Excellence again, which goes to the top AFJROTC unit in the state. And last but not least, "Hawk's Eye View" was celebrated for winning the program's third Best High School Newscast in the Southeast from the National Academy for Screen Arts and Sciences.

Congratulations to Kaylen Bradshaw and Nicole Arias on each receiving a $2,500 scholarship from BCSD Teacher Forum! From Berkeley High, Kaylen received the 2026 Teacher Forum Teacher Cadet Student Scholarship. Representing Cane Bay High, Nicole won the 2026 Teacher Forum CTE Student Scholarship for her commitment to agricultural and veterinary sciences.


Our 2025 District Ambassadors Academy program wrapped up last week at one of the buzziest new schools in Berkeley County, Bee Tree Elementary. This is a very special initiative designed to provide an insider’s perspective on how the district operates to residents and Berkeley County business/community leaders. Keep an eye out for program applications this summer!

A huge congratulations to Philip Simmons High's girls and boys track teams on completing the sweep and winning the state championships last night! For the girls this is their second straight state championship! #makingapositivedifference


Not to brag, but we have the best career specialist in the tri-county area! Jessica Galati, BCSD's career specialist at Cane Bay High, was named the Career Specialist of the Year for the Trident Region — which is comprised of Berkeley, Dorchester and Charleston counties — by the South Carolina Department of Education. Well deserved, Jessica!
