A lot of upgrades have been made to Hanahan Elementary over the past year, but the new playground is, by far, the most-anticipated project for the students.
On Nov. 6, city and district officials gathered at Hanahan Elementary for a special ribbon cutting celebration to recognize the completion of the new playground.
The playground is a custom designed structure with varying deck heights from four to 14 feet high. There is a new custom Soft Play mascot and a sitting area. Three bay swing sets and artificial turf allows children of all abilities to use it.
Fifth grade students who had perfect attendance during the first nine weeks of school were invited to be the first group of children to test drive the new playground equipment. Based on all the energy, the new play area has been well-received.
