student going through breakfast line

Starting Sept. 11, all Berkeley County School District students will receive breakfast at no cost for the remainder of the 2026–2027 school year.

The South Carolina Department of Education Office of School Food Service and Nutrition provided guidance yesterday stating that students who were previously paying for breakfast will now receive breakfast at no cost. Meals will continue to meet USDA guidelines for healthy eating.

Moving forward, all breakfasts served to students will no longer be charged to students' MySchoolBucks account, regardless of household income or eligibility status.

Over the next few days, BCSD Child Nutrition Services will also be crediting student accounts for any breakfast charges made between Aug. 12 and Sept. 10. Families do not need to contact the schools to request these credits.

If you have questions regarding breakfast charges or this new provision, please direct them to BCSD Child Nutrition Services at 843-899-8054.
