Berkeley County School District is excited to share that Tyra Ramsey, Director of Transportation for BCSD, has been elected Chair of the South Carolina Association of School Administrators (SCASA) Transportation Roundtable for the 2026-2027 school year.
Ramsey stepped into her director role with BCSD in 2022. She is entering her second year with SCASA.
Ramsey was elected to Chair after receiving nominations by her fellow SCASA members, who proceeded to vote on the top two members who received the most nominations.
“I was honored that folks would place that much trust in me, to lead something as important as this,” Ramsey said. “We always have to try to put transportation at the forefront to figure out how we can streamline things so that students are arriving on time for school.”
SCASA is the preeminent professional organization for public education leaders in South Carolina, with a membership of more than 5,500 educators across the state. SCASA members include assistant principals, principals, district leaders, district superintendents, retired school leaders and college of education deans.
SCASA’s 33 roundtable groups each meet multiple times throughout the year and serve as collaborative forums where school leaders can share insights, discuss emerging issues, receive updates from relevant organizations, and exchange best practices with their counterparts from other South Carolina school districts.
SCASA’s Joint Operations, Security Specialists and Transportation groups have a conjoined meeting to go over different issues that occur in school districts and how they relate to each other. Ramsey said the idea is to build an alliance to work toward common goals with each other.
“We come together to try to streamline the service and see how we can improve things, and we also bounce a lot of ideas off of each other,” she said, adding, “So I will be…guiding the direction of where we’re going to go for our roundtable for this year.”
Ramsey said her roundtable’s first goal is to increase the number of participating directors to encourage further collaboration.
“The more folks we involve, the more information we’ll get,” she said.
