During Monday evening’s regular meeting, the Board of Education approved the administration’s recommendation to name Dr. Lindsey Marino as Executive Director of Special Services.

Dr. Marino brings more than 25 years of experience in public education, with a distinguished career that includes roles as a special education teacher, ARD case manager, and assistant principal at both the middle and high school levels across two South Carolina school districts and in Klein Independent School District in Texas. She also served as a 9th grade principal in Klein ISD and, most recently, as Director of Student Services in Lancaster County.

“Dr. Marino has built a record of success both in South Carolina and beyond, including impactful leadership roles in Klein Independent School District in Texas, where she served as an assistant principal and 9th grade principal, as well as in Fort Mill School District and Lancaster County School District,” said BCSD Chief Officer of Student Support Services Dr. Kylon Middleton. “Her diverse experiences across multiple systems reflect a deep commitment to supporting students with varied needs and ensuring equitable access to high-quality educational opportunities for all.”

A product of Berkeley County School District, Dr. Marino began her career in 2000 as a special education teacher at Macedonia Middle School and went on to serve students and families at Sangaree Middle and Westview Primary. In 2013, she was named Berkeley County School District Assistant Principal of the Year and South Carolina Assistant Principal of the Year.

“There is no greater honor than returning to the community that raised me to serve the students who need us most,” Marino said. “Coming home to this district as Executive Director of Special Services feels like the culmination of a journey, and I am ready to turn my passion for our students into meaningful progress.”

Dr. Marino holds an Ed.D. in Child and Youth Services and Special Education Administration from Nova Southeastern University, a Master of Education in Elementary Administration and Supervision from Charleston Southern University, and a Bachelor of Science in Special Education and Elementary Education from Winthrop University.

Dr. Marino will serve as Executive Director of Special Services within the Office of Student Support Services, under the supervision of Chief Officer Dr. Kylon Middleton, with a start date to be mutually agreed upon based on her release from her current district.
