Berkeley County School District is ending this week on a high note after hosting another successful OneBerkeley United Games event.
This is the sixth year the district has organized this epic field day event for students with special needs and their “buddies” from the general education classrooms. VIEW PHOTOS.
This year, 20 elementary schools turned out for the event, held Friday morning at Stratford High. Followed by the Presentation of Colors with Stratford High’s JROTC students, visiting students helped lead the crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance. Stratford High’s band performed the National Anthem. In true Olympics style, Officer Andrew Myers – school resource officer at Stratford High – carried a ceremonial torch to officially kick off the festivities.
After parading around the track, schools took the field to rotate through all sorts of games and activities, managed by Stratford High student athletes and leaders.
OneBerkeley United Games has become a much-anticipated district event every year. BCSD Director of Student Services Katie Stamps said the district appreciates collaborating with the schools to make the event even better every year.
“Without their help, and our additional team members, we would not be able to make these events possible,” she said.
BCSD would like to extend its thanks to its Champion Donors – Low Country Native and Coca-Cola – for their support this year.
