child getting food from vendor

Berkeley County School District had a great turnout for the Taste, Play, Connect, Educate event, held March 14 at Cane Bay High.

This event was made possible thanks to a partnership between BCSD's Child Nutrition Services, Office of State and Federal Programs and Office of Student Services.

Vendors from all over came out to share more than 100 different type of food items for families to sample. These items could potentially end up on breakfast and lunch menus in BCSD's cafeterias. After sampling the food, students were asked to submit their votes at voting stations to weigh in on what they would like to see serve on their lunch trays in the future.

Families were also invited to meet with different outside groups to get connected to community resources and learn more about the different departments within BCSD. Crosswind Farm brought a petting zoo, and families could also check out a helicopter that was flown in from the Charleston County Sheriff's Department. In addition, there was a lots of music, children activities and prize giveaways from both the district and food vendors.

It was a very interactive day on Saturday – check out more photos from the event: VIEW PHOTOS.
