Berkeley County School District is excited to recognize H.E. Bonner Elementary, Howe Hall AIMS, Philip Simmons Elementary and Philip Simmons Middle for successfully renewing their ABC School Certifications. Each re-certifying school is now certified through the 2028-2029 school year!
ABC stands for Arts in Basic Curriculum. Being an ABC School is a certification process and demonstrates a school’s strategic commitment to making the arts an integral part of the basic curriculum, daily classroom instruction, and to arts education as integral to the school’s vision.
ABC Schools serve as models for others to learn from, both in-state and across the country. Commitment to the arts is strategic in nature, and it requires courageous and creative leadership.
The ABC Advancement Grant from the South Carolina Arts Commission (SCAC) supports ABC Certified Schools in their commitments and supports BCSD’s schools in making arts-rich educational opportunities accessible to students.
ABC Institute is an Arts Grow SC collective network partner. ABC Institute is funded in part by the South Carolina Arts Commission, which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts.
