Cane Bay High and Goose Creek High drama students travelled to Clemson University for the South Carolina Theatre Association Annual Convention in November and walked away with a litany of awards. SCTA's convention aims to bring together high school, college, community and professional theater artists for workshops, keynotes and festivals every year.

Along with growing their theatrical skills, students can also perform for their peers and adjudication during the convention.

An ensemble from Goose Creek High performed "Antigone Now" for the judges, resulting in Noelle Bell and Mikaelah Chefney receiving SCTA All-Star Cast Awards for their roles of Antigone and Creon respectively. The ensemble also participated in the SCTA Tech Olympics, honing their theater tech skills for future productions.

Cane Bay High also performed a main stage piece and a studio series piece at convention for adjudication. CBH's main stage piece, "I Never Saw Another Butterfly," placed seventh in state competition and won Bailey Barrett and Arabella Hermann All Star Cast Awards, but the big showstopper was the studio series piece, "Withering Away."

Written by student playwright Josh Nielsen, "Withering Away" was one of the two High School Theater Festival state winners. With this win, the Cobras punched their ticket to the Southeastern Theatre Conference in March. Additionally, Jonathan Williams won an All Star Cast Award and Josh Nielsen won Best Student Playwright for their work in the piece.

Congratulations to all the SCTA winners from BCSD!
