Berkeley County School District board member appointed five new assistant principals during Monday night’s board meeting.
New administrators were joined by family, friends and colleagues as they were recognized during the board meeting; all appointments passed unanimously by board members, with their contracts to start in July. The following new assistant principals are joining Sangaree Middle, Philip Simmons High, Foxbank Elementary, Bowens Corner Elementary and Berkeley High.
Dr. Laquantis Chevis - Sangaree Middle
Dr. Chevis has previously served as a middle school-level math teacher at Westview Middle, Cainhoy Elementary and Philip Simmons Middle in BCSD. She is rejoining the district after most recently serving as an instructional math coach at Military Magnet Academy in North Charleston for the past three years. Dr. Chevis studied middle school education, with a focus on math and science, from the University of South Carolina at Spartanburg. She also has a Masters of Science in Education degree from Walden University and an Education Specialist in Leadership degree through Webster University. She has a Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction through Liberty University.
Kory Dollinger - Philip Simmons High
Dollinger has an extensive background as a high school-level special services teacher, as well as a strength and conditioning coordinator and an assistant varsity football coach, starting in 2013 in Wilmington, N.C. After filling similar roles at high schools in Anderson and Union, Dollinger brought his expertise to Goose Creek High in 2017. He transferred to Sedgefield Middle in 2019 before returning to Goose Creek High in 2021 to serve as the director of strength and conditioning as well as an assistant athletic director. He played college football at the University of Akron and then at Walsh University. He also has a Masters in Educational Leadership degree from Arkansas State University.
MyKeida Middleton - Foxbank Elementary
Middleton joins BCSD after serving as the district instructional technology coach for Calhoun County Public Schools for eight years. Her previous roles include serving as a Teacher Advancement Program (TAP) mentor teacher, designing preparation courses as a Voorhees College Praxis Support instructor, and leading after-school and summer enrichment programs with Engaging Creative Minds. She also taught fourth through sixth grades for 13 years. Middleton studied elementary education at South Carolina State University, where she was also a South Carolina Teaching Fellows recipient. She has a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Cambridge College, plus 30 credit hours in Educational Leadership through Charleston Southern University, where she is also wrapping up her doctorate.
Lisa Morley - Bowens Corner Elementary
Over the course of Morley’s career, she has taught pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, first grade and third grade. She most recently served as a first-grade teacher at Cane Bay Elementary, where she was named the school’s Teacher of the year in 2023. She has taught in BCSD since 2020. Throughout her 17-year teaching career, Morley has also served as a grade chair / team lead, a new teacher mentor and a Carolina CAP coach, among other endeavors. She studied education at SUNY Brockport in New York, and also holds a Master of Education from Elmira College. She received her Principal Certification in Educational Leadership and Supervision from Lamar University.
Lekevia Mills - Berkeley High
While she was not able to attend Monday night's board meeting, BCSD would like to recognize Lekevia Mills joining Berkeley High.
Mills started her teaching career as a high school biology teacher in Charlotte, N.C. before moving to Charleston County School District in 2018. She was named Charleston County School District’s Teacher of the Year for the 2020-2021 school year, and most recently served as the district’s instructional specialist for secondary science. She studied biology (pre-med) at Virginia State University. Additionally, she holds a Master of Education in Education Leadership degree from The Citadel and a Master of Science in Biology from Virginia State University, and is pursuing on a Doctoral Degree in Leadership from Charleston Southern University.
