dixon, littleton, bradley write names on beam

Berkeley County School District celebrated a big construction milestone on Thursday when district and construction officials came together to "top off" the Bee Tree Elementary building.

Topping off ceremonies recognize the placement of the final beam at the highest point of a new building. Bee Tree Elementary is located in the Jedburg area, near the intersection of Cane Bay Blvd. and Black Tom Road. It is slated to open its doors to students in August 2026. David Hemstrought, Director of New Construction for the district, said this event signifies the transition from the outside construction to the interior of the building.

“It’s a milestone on our schedule to get this roof on,” he said.

Representatives from the district and H.G. Reynolds Company took turns writing their names – as well as well wishes – onto the beam before a crane lifted it up and placed it on the roof of the building. Attendees were then invited to walk through the building’s future media center.
