Berkeley County School District’s Child Nutrition Services team members traveled the length and width of the district this week to recognize students for their participation in National School Lunch Week.
During the week of October 14 -18, students were awarded prizes for participation. Some of those students learned this week that their names had been randomly selected for grand prizes. In total, there were 45 gifts given to students.
Among the loot of prizes provided to those lucky students for their participation in National School Lunch Week were air/earbuds, iPads, Bluetooth speakers and digital cameras. The goal for those grand prizes was two-fold -- match the National School Lunch Program’s theme of “Find Your Treasure” and provide students with gifts they would adore.
For several years BCSD’s Child Nutrition Services (CNS) department has used vendor perks to provide the highly coveted grand prizes. BCSD CNS Director Benita Smith says it makes most sense for all of those perks earned to go back to the children and into the promotion of the importance of school meals.
“We want this to be memorable,” she said. “We want to build excitement for eating healthy, and this helps us do that.”
