Head Coach
Coach Mammes is a family man first and foremost; he and his wife Alecia have two kids, Declan (6) and Isabelle (4). He spends most of his time with them and coaches their recreation sports teams.
Coach Mammes is a Long Island, New York, native who moved to South Carolina in 2006 to attend Coastal Carolina University. Coach Mammes obtained a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education and a Master's Degree in Instructional Technology from Coastal Carolina. He then began his teaching and coaching in 2012.
He started teaching special education at Palmetto Middle School in Mullins, SC, in 2012. He spent the next 5 years as a special education teacher, head JV Boys' basketball coach, and assistant varsity boys' basketball coach at Carolina Forest HS in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. While there, his JV teams had the best record against all region opponents every year except one and had only one season with a losing overall record. While there, the varsity team had the best finish in school history, winning the region and advancing to the third round of the Class AAAA playoffs in the 15-16 season. Coach Mammes took his first head varsity coaching job at Cheraw High School in Cheraw, South Carolina, in 2018. In the 2019-2020 season, his Cheraw Braves tied for their best finish in school history, reaching the lower state title game, even as the 2nd-smallest school in Class AAA that year. Coach Mammes took over the boys' basketball program at Hanahan High School at the start of the 2021-2022 school year. This will be his 5th season in charge of the Hawks.
Basketball is the coach's passion; he's been involved in it at every level and in every way imaginable. He has played his entire life and continues to play 3 to 4 times a week now. He was a high school and college basketball official for 6 NCAA seasons and loves to watch his beloved New York Knicks and St. John's Red Storm (never missing a game of either).
