Picture Day for all students is this Friday, October 10th!
Ms. Campbell's 5th graders brought the elements of drama to life by acting out a play from our HMH curriculum. Students learned all about scenes and created their own props to make the performance come alive! We are so proud of their teamwork and creativity! #WeareBES #BESproud #creativekids

We celebrated our Terrific Kids for showing the trait of Respect. These students were recognized for the way they demonstrate respect through their words, actions, and kindness towards others. To make the moment extra special, their families surprised them in the classroom and guided them to the ceremony. Congratulations to all of you! We are so proud of the way you serve our school community, #TerrificKid #respect #BESproud

To help ignite a love for reading, teachers often invite special guests into the classroom to read aloud with the students. In honor of International Literacy Day, Keshia Kelly’s third grade class at Berkeley Elementary received such a guest: Superintendent Dr. Anthony Dixon swung by to read “Double Trouble in Walla Walla!"
It was such a treat to have our Superintendent Dr. Dixon visit BES in honor of International Literacy Day. Ms. Kelly's third graders had a blast interacting and laughing along during his read aloud of Double Trouble In Walla Walla . Thank you, Dr. Dixon, for making the day extra special for our students.

We hope you can join us tonight for Meet the Teacher from 4:30pm-6pm!!

Meet Dr. Monique Pemberton Capers – Assistant Principal, Berkeley Elementary School
Hello Berkeley Elementary families!
My name is Dr. Monique Pemberton Capers, and I am incredibly honored to serve as your new Assistant Principal at Berkeley Elementary School. With 21 years of experience in education, I remain just as passionate today about student growth and instructional leadership as I was when I first stepped into the classroom.
I am a proud graduate of Claflin University, where I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education. I continued my educational journey at South Carolina State University, where I received my Master of Teaching degree, followed by an Education Specialist degree in Administration, and most recently, my Doctorate in Educational Administration.
Over the years, I have had the privilege of working alongside amazing educators and serving incredible students. I’ve seen firsthand how students and teachers flourish when they feel supported, encouraged, and challenged to reach their fullest potential. While I’ve been proud of my impact as a classroom teacher and instructional coach, I continue to grow each day as a leader. My goal is to “pay forward” the experiences that shaped me by supporting and inspiring the innovative educators and learners I now serve.
It is a joy to join the BES community and work alongside Principal Ruth Butka to lead our school’s instructional efforts. We are truly fortunate to be part of a school filled with dedicated teachers, involved families, and diverse learners. I am committed to building strong partnerships with our staff and families to ensure all students are thriving and achieving at high levels.
On a personal note, I love to travel, try new foods, and spend time with my beautiful family. I’m the proud mom of four amazing children—Latyra (25), Taylor (15), Kaylee (13), and Kingston (7)—and one adorable Goldendoodle named Remi.
I look forward to meeting you and your family throughout the school year. Let’s work together to build a culture of excellence, where every child feels valued, supported, and inspired to succeed!
With gratitude,
Dr. Monique Pemberton Capers
