Project at a Glance

Bee Tree Elementary School serves students in grades K-5th in the growing Jedburg community. Berkeley County School District broke ground on the project in Oct. 2024 and cut the ribbon on the facility in June 2026. Providing relief to Cane Bay Elementary, Nexton Elementary, Whitesville Elementary and Berkeley Elementary, it will open its doors to students in August 2026.

The Berkeley County Board of Education met on August 9, 2022 and passed a resolution to place a one-percent sales tax on the November 2022 ballots of Berkeley County voters. The resolution was passed by Berkeley County voters with a 70 percent approval rate. It is now in place for seven calendar years, ending on December 31, 2029.

Commonly identified as a "penny tax," the one-percent tax is an Education Capital Improvements Sales and Use Tax. The Educational Capital Improvements Sales and Use Tax Act authorizes qualifying school districts in South Carolina to impose a one-percent sales tax for specific capital improvement projects.
