Attention: Registration for the 2026-2027 school year will open on Tuesday, July 7th at 10 AM.
Berkeley County School District will offer Extended Day Programs for the 2026-2027 school year at 26 schools for families who need care outside of regular school hours. These programs operate separately from the school day and are not part of the academic curriculum. They are fee-based and designed to provide a safe, engaging environment for students before and/or after school.
Some schools also offer a before-school program, depending on the principal’s decision. These programs begin at a time set by the school and end when students transition to their regular classes. After-school programs run from dismissal until 6:00 p.m. Each school has a designated director who oversees the program.
Extended Day Programs focus on enrichment rather than classroom instruction. Students participate in weekly character-building lessons that are reinforced daily through activities centered on art, STEM, social-emotional learning (SEL), and health. Children enjoy a balance of structured enrichment and supervised free play, both indoors and outdoors, with a strong emphasis on safety.
Our staff members are trained in safety procedures, discipline policies, confidentiality, and Safe Schools requirements. While they are qualified to work with children, most are not certified teachers. Staff members complete a background check and are qualified to work with children.Starting at age 16 we employ a mix of high school students, college students, teacher assistants and community members who are passionate about working with children.
We welcome children of all abilities, including those with IEPs, BIPs, 504 plans, and other support needs. When necessary, we meet with families to discuss reasonable accommodations to help ensure each child has an equal opportunity to participate in the program.
Each school’s Extended Day Program may vary slightly to meet the needs of its students and community. For enrollment information, please contact your child’s school directly.
