What an unforgettable evening at Sedgefield’s Black History Extravaganza! 🎉✨

We are beyond grateful to everyone who came out to celebrate with us. With over 250 community members in attendance, the night was filled with energy, pride, and powerful moments that truly showcased Black excellence in every form.

From the incredible dance performances to the uplifting sounds of our band our students shined brightly on stage. Each performance reflected talent, dedication, culture, and history — reminding us all of the importance of celebrating and honoring the rich contributions of Black leaders, artists, and innovators throughout history.

A special thank you to our students, staff, families, and community partners who worked tirelessly to make this event such a success. Your support, enthusiasm, and commitment to uplifting our scholars made the evening truly extraordinary.

Together, we celebrated heritage, unity, creativity, and excellence. We are so proud of our Sedgefield community and look forward to continuing this important tradition for years to come.

Hello SFM Families and Guardians,

In recognition of Black History Month, our 8th grade team is excited to provide students with the opportunity to visit the African American Museum in Charleston during school hours on March 24, 25, and 26. This meaningful experience will allow students to deepen their understanding of history, culture, and the significant contributions of African Americans.

To ensure a positive and safe experience for all participants, students must meet established behavior expectations in order to attend. Beginning February 10, 2026, students may not have any referrals resulting in ISS or OSS and may not accumulate more than two total referrals.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school. We appreciate your continued support.

Warm regards,
Dr. C

Hello SFM Families and Guardians,

As we reach the midpoint of this important grading period, I would like to share a few reminders. Please note that students will not be in school on Friday, and schools will also be closed on Monday in observance of Presidents’ Day.

This is a critical time as we prepare for the SC READY assessments in early May. In March, students will participate in a testing checkpoint through DRC Beacon. Over the next few months, the consistent effort students demonstrate each day will play a meaningful role in their performance on the SC READY assessments, which are now less than three months away. Our goal is for every student to finish strong—like the Seattle Seahawks!

If you have read all the way to this point, thank you for being an incredible parent and a valued supporter of the work we do at SFM. Your partnership makes a difference in the success of our students.

Warm regards,
Dr. C

Hello SFM Families and Guardians, It is with tremendous pride and admiration that we recognize Mrs. Jenkins as our Teacher of the Year. Her impact on Sedgefield Middle School reaches far beyond the walls of her classroom. She is not only an exceptional educator, but also a mentor, a leader, and a steady source of inspiration for both students and colleagues. Mrs. Jenkins brings out the best in every student she encounters. Her classroom is a place where curiosity is encouraged, confidence is built, and every child feels seen and valued. She has a remarkable ability to meet students where they are and guide them toward their fullest potential with patience, compassion, and unwavering belief in their abilities. Her influence extends just as strongly to her fellow educators. As a mentor, she leads with grace, generosity, and professionalism. She is the person others turn to for guidance, encouragement, and thoughtful collaboration. Her commitment to supporting her colleagues strengthens our entire school community. Sedgefield Middle School is better because of her. Mrs. Jenkins is truly an asset—someone whose dedication, heart, and excellence elevate all of us. We are grateful for her leadership, her passion, and the countless ways she enriches the lives of those around her. Congratulations, Mrs. Jenkins. This honor is so well deserved. Dr. Cowan

School counselors amplify student success! National School Counseling Week 2026 (Feb. 2-6), sponsored by the American School Counselor Association, highlights the essential contribution of school counselors to a school system. Every student deserves a school counselor to help with academic achievement strategies, managing emotions, applying interpersonal skills and planning for postsecondary options. Be sure to thank a school counselor this week for everything they do to support their school and students! #NSCW26 #makingapositivedifference

Hello, SFM Families and Guardians, As we return tomorrow, please use caution on campus, as some shaded areas may still have patches of ice. Please also ensure your student brings their device back to school. I’m looking forward to welcoming our wonderful students and getting back into our routine together. Stay warm and take care, Dr. Cowan

Hello SFM Parents and Guardians, Due to concerns about icy conditions, Berkeley County School District students will learn from home and complete eLearning Day assignments on Monday, February 2. All schools and offices will remain closed on Monday. Staff will work remotely. Students will complete eLearning assignments from home via Schoology or SeeSaw. Specific information about assignments will be provided by the student’s teacher and/or school. Teachers will share information regarding their office hours to support students completing eLearning assignments at home. Parents and students can refer to the eLearning Day FAQs for more details. All before and after school programs, extracurricular activities, athletic events—including practices and games— and special events are canceled Monday, February 2. BCSD works closely with Berkeley County Emergency Management and receives regular updates from the National Weather Service to monitor conditions. District leadership plans to resume normal operations on Tuesday, February 3, but may make further adjustments to school operations if necessary. For additional updates, please visit the BCSD website and/or mobile app. Dr. Cowan
