Hello SFM Families and Guardians, I hope you and your family had a restful and peaceful Spring Break. As we welcome our students back, please continue to encourage strong study habits and consistent preparation as we approach high-stakes testing in May. Devices should be turned off and kept in students’ book bags during the school day, unless there is a documented health-related need. Mrs. Jamie Fox is an Assistant Principal and former Multilingual Learner Instructional Coach with over a decade of experience supporting students and building strong school communities. She is passionate about instructional leadership, equity, and ensuring all learners have access to meaningful, high-quality education. With a background in ESOL instruction, coaching, and school leadership, she is committed to developing teachers, strengthening systems, and driving student achievement. Outside of her professional work, Jamie enjoys traveling and exploring new places with her family, creating meaningful experiences and memories along the way. She values quality time at home just as much, whether that’s visiting local restaurants with her husband, staying busy with her son and daughter, or hiking with their two dogs. This is Mrs. Fox's second year as the 7th-grade administrator, and we are blessed to have her.

This is Mr. Childers' 7th year at Sedgefield Middle. He is from Tabor City, NC. He attended Coastal Carolina, earning a Bachelor's in History, and holds two Master's Degrees from The Citadel. One in US History and the other in Educational Leadership. He is a former football, basketball, and track coach at Andrews and Hanahan High. He is married to Nikki and the father of Karis, Kohen, and Penny. In his free time, he has two podcasts and plays guitar. Mr. Childers is our 8th-grade administrator and our most veteran administrator. We are fortunate to have him on our staff.

I want to highlight my wonderful Assistant Principals during AP Appreciation Week. Please enjoy learning about our 6th-grade administrator, Mr. McFadden. Mr. Brendan McFadden is a former award-winning math teacher and coach who dedicated the last 15 years of his career to serving students in Baltimore City. Passionate about education and mentorship, he made a lasting impact in the classroom. Brendan is a proud husband and father of two boys, and together with his family and their husky dog, he enjoys making the most of life. In his free time, he loves to travel and explore all that the Lowcountry has to offer. This is Mr. McFadden's first year with SFM, and we are fortunate to have him.

I would like to take a moment to recognize the Coldest Assistant Principals (AP) during AP Week. They work tirelessly to strengthen our school’s instructional environment, refine our policies and procedures, and enhance our overall school climate. Their dedication and commitment are essential to achieving our goals, and I truly value the impact they make each day. They consistently show care and support for both our students and staff, always stepping in wherever needed to ensure our school community thrives. Hello SFM Families and Guardians, We are incredibly proud to share that during BCSD’s 2026 Turnaround Achievement Award Program today, Samiya Taylor represented Sedgefield and took home the award! This is an outstanding accomplishment, and we could not be more excited for her. Samiya consistently demonstrates exceptional maturity, character, and pride in all that she does. It was truly a joy getting to spend time with her, she represents the very best of Sedgefield. When you see Samiya, please be sure to congratulate her and celebrate this well-deserved recognition. Hello, SFM, Families and Guardians, I want to take a moment to recognize, our Lead Guidance Counselor, Ms. Nelson, for the outstanding job she did organizing Career Day. She coordinated several organizations to come and speak with our students about future opportunities, creating a meaningful and engaging experience for all. This was a rich opportunity that will help guide our students as they begin thinking about their future paths. Great job, Ms. Nelson, we are truly fortunate to have you on our team! Dr. C

On Wednesday March 18, the 7th Grade Chorale and 8th Grade Concert Choir participated in the State Assessment for choirs.

8th Grade Concert Choir received the rating of "Good"
7th Grade Chorale received the rating of "Excellent"

Students had to prepare two Concert pieces that were adjudicated by three choral professionals, and then use their music literacy skills to perform a third piece that they have never seen or heard.
