As a baseball fan, I like to say that we have rounded third and are heading home for the winning run. Students will be home on Monday so our teachers can put the finishing touches on third quarter grades. When students return to the “New” Sedgefield, they will begin the fourth quarter of the school year, with just 13 instructional days before Spring Break.
We have several exciting events taking place over the next three weeks. Students will participate in DRC Beacon testing, Club Day, our fundraiser at Huey Magoo’s, Pie an Administrator (who doesn’t want to pie Dr. C?), and our 8th grade field trip to the International African American Museum.
I am excited to see the progress our students have made from August until now. Please encourage your student to take their time and do their very best on the DRC Beacon assessments. These tests give students an opportunity to practice their test-taking skills and build resiliency as they prepare for the high-stakes SC READY assessments.
These assessments play an important role in our school’s report card rating. We are currently five points away from moving from Below Average to Average. Our teachers and students have put in the work, and we have a clear path forward.
Please continue to encourage your student to stay focused, embrace the grind, and finish strong. We need that winning run in the bottom of the ninth, and I know the New Sedgefield will deliver.

On Wednesday March 18, the 7th Grade Chorale and 8th Grade Concert Choir participated in the State Assessment for choirs.
8th Grade Concert Choir received the rating of "Good"
7th Grade Chorale received the rating of "Excellent"
Students had to prepare two Concert pieces that were adjudicated by three choral professionals, and then use their music literacy skills to perform a third piece that they have never seen or heard.

During Social Work Month, we pause to recognize and celebrate the heart-centered professionals who work tirelessly to support the well-being of others. At SFM, we are especially proud to honor Mrs. Dobson for the tremendous work she does each and every day as our School Social Worker.
Mrs. Dobson serves as a steady presence for our students, families, and staff. She advocates fiercely, listens compassionately, and leads with both empathy and professionalism. Whether she is supporting a student through a challenging moment, connecting families to critical resources, or partnering with staff to remove barriers to success, she consistently demonstrates what it means to serve with purpose.
