Hello SFM Families and Guardians,

I hope you are having an excellent summer break and enjoying some sizzling summer weather! Whether you're spending time at the pool, the beach, or simply relaxing at home, please stay safe, stay hydrated, and enjoy the remainder of your summer.
As we prepare for the 2026–2027 school year, I want to send a friendly reminder regarding the state and district cell phone policy. As you know, we experienced multiple concerns last school year with students not consistently following the policy that was implemented by the state in January 2025. This year, the policy will be enforced consistently and with fidelity.
I encourage you to have a conversation with your child before the first day of school to reinforce these expectations. Your support at home is essential and will help us provide a safe, focused, and distraction-free learning environment for all students.
The policy states:
**During the school day, students are prohibited from accessing their personal electronic devices, unless authorized for classroom use. Students may not wear or access device accessories during the school day. Students must store their devices and device accessories in their lockers, backpacks, or as otherwise directed by the school district during the school day. School districts may also prohibit student possession of devices and device accessories on school property.**
Please note that this policy also applies to **Smart Watches,** **wireless earbuds, AirPods, and Bluetooth headphones**. Students may use **wired headphones** only when directed by their teacher for instructional purposes.
This policy is not new, and I respectfully ask for your partnership in helping your child understand and follow these expectations. Please know that my staff and I will enforce this policy consistently and will not make exceptions outside of those outlined by the district. I wanted to communicate these expectations well in advance so that families have time to prepare before the school year begins.
I am incredibly excited about the year ahead! Last year, we made significant strides in student achievement, behavior, and our overall school culture and climate. While there is still work to do, I am confident that, together, we will continue building on that success and make the 2026–2027 school year our best yet.
I look forward to seeing everyone at **Meet the Teacher Night** and welcoming our students back to **The New Sedgefield**!
Your Friendly Neighborhood Principal,
Dr. Ezra Cowan ("Dr. C")
Principal, Sedgefield Middle School

While the school campus will be closed, phone service will remain available during regular business hours for families who need assistance or have questions. Please do not hesitate to contact the school if support is needed.
Thank you for your understanding as we complete these improvements to our learning environment. We look forward to welcoming everyone back soon!
SFM Parents & Guardians,
As we continue preparations for the 2026-2027 school year, we have many students that are in "Not Started" status for returning student registration. Timely registration supports scheduling, staffing, and transportation for the next school year. Parents, please complete the returning student registration process by June 1, 2026.

**Please read this message in its entirety before contacting the school.**
An electronic version of your student's report card will be sent to the email address we have on file. Please note that this electronic copy will provide numerical grades only and will **not** indicate whether your student has been promoted, retained, or assigned to summer school.
As a reminder, any grade below a 60 is considered failing.
Parents and guardians of students who are being retained or who are eligible for summer school should have already been contacted. An official report card was mailed on Monday and will include your student's final promotion status, retention status, or summer school eligibility.
To assist our office staff with end-of-year responsibilities, please wait until you receive the official report card before contacting the school regarding retention, or summer school status. The official report card will provide the most accurate and complete information.
Thank you for your continued support. Have an awesome day and enjoy a safe and relaxing summer!
Dr. C
