Dr. Leslie Howder is excited to be named the new principal of Hanahan Middle.

Families are invited to come out and meet Dr. Howder on Thursday, Aug. 6 for a special meet and greet event at the school. The Tikiz truck will be on campus for families to purchase some sweet treats.

Dr. Howder studied elementary education at the College of Charleston. She holds a Master of Education degree in educational leadership through The Citadel, where she also received her Education Specialist degree in educational leadership. She attained her doctorate in Educational Administration through the University of South Carolina.

Dr. Howder has spent all 25 years of her education career in Berkeley County School District – and she is a product of BCSD. She previously taught eighth grade science at Sedgefield Middle before transitioning to the district’s Adult and Community Education program to serve as a workforce specialist. She has served as an assistant principal at Daniel Island School, Berkeley Middle, Sangaree Middle and College Park Middle before entering her first principal role at St. Stephen Middle in 2024.

Dr. Howder said she is looking forward to entering her new role with the Hanahan Hawks.

“I am honored to be the next principal of Hanahan Middle School,” she said. “It is a privilege to join a community that values learning, growth, and strong relationships.”
