Yesterday our students were thrilled to welcome the North Carolina Youth Tap Ensemble (NCYTE)!

NCYTE — a talented group of about 40 dancers, ages 8–18 from across North Carolina — honored the traditions of tap while bringing youthful energy, contemporary music, and fresh choreography from some of the world’s top choreographers.

Our students absolutely loved watching these incredible performers. A huge thank-you to NCYTE for an inspiring, toe‑tapping performance that left everyone buzzing! 👏🩰✨

We were able to provide this performance thanks to our Distinguished Arts Program grant. Thank you to the South Carolina State Department of Education for supporting the arts in our school.

A group of about 15 elementary‑age children perform on a wooden stage lit with colorful spotlights in pink, orange, and purple. They wear bright solid t‑shirts (orange, pink, green, yellow, light blue) with dark pants and fluffy feather boas in matching colors. Children stand across the stage—some smiling, some posing or mid‑movement. Center‑right is a large red prop box with a sparkly gold band and a small blue panel showing a starry scene; a child in yellow stands behind it. The stage front is draped with light blue sheer fabric and white fluff, and a rainbow fringe decorates the lower edge. In the lower right foreground the back of an audience member’s head is visible.

About 15–20 kids stand across the wooden stage in two color groups: children on the left wear bright yellow t‑shirts and headbands, many with arms raised; children on the right wear blue t‑shirts and headbands with arms raised. A large brown chest‑like prop with a glittery silver band sits center stage, its open top glowing green and blue; one child in yellow and one in blue peer into it. A black‑and‑white soccer ball rests near the left group. The stage front is decorated with colorful striped fabric and reflective bands; a small gray plush sits on iridescent blue fabric at far right. In the lower foreground the backs of audience members’ heads are visible.
Children perform on a raised stage in a dimly lit hall under purple and pink wash lighting. About 16–18 young performers wear light cowboy hats with star emblems; the left group wears red shirts and the right group wears blue shirts (one child in blue has black gloves). Many children cup their hands around their mouths as if singing or calling. A decorated reddish-brown chest with a white fluffy boa sits center stage, and a colorful fan‑striped fabric drapes the stage front. Metallic rainbow fringe and blue sheer fabric trim the stage edge. Two audience members sit on the floor in the foreground, backs to camera
About 18–20 young children perform on a wooden stage under soft pastel lighting. Most wear white t‑shirts and dark bottoms and bright “carrot” headbands with two orange carrot‑shaped attachments. Children are arranged in rows—some standing, some crouching—around a large ornate chest prop with glittery gold bands and a starry dark blue top; a white fluffy decoration is attached to the chest. The stage front is trimmed with colorful fringe and light blue draping; a small stuffed animal and a white hat sit near the right front. The children look engaged and cheerful, facing the audience.

Eight+ kids wear matching costumes: black bowler hats, white shirts, red bow ties and red waist sashes, with a mix of dark trousers, jeans and sparkly pants. A large reddish-brown trunk prop with gold accents sits center stage topped with a light hat, a white feathery boa and yellow ribbons. Children around the prop sing and pose—some with hands to their mouths, some leaning forward—conveying energetic, theatrical engagement.

A boy kneels on a blue carpet sorting word-picture puzzle pieces, holding a piece labeled “star.” Scattered pieces show images with words like “snake,” “dog,” “truck,” “train,” “cat,” “barn,” “man,” “box,” and “wall.” A clear plastic container of pieces sits beside him.
A child wearing a shirt that reads “OFF THE GRID” works with handwriting practice cards. Visible cards say “Handwriting Letters” and show the letters “F” and a stylized “J.” The child is focused at a table.
White letter-sound cards are spread on a blue rug with letters and small images (e.g., “p b d” and a pig; “I y r” and a rainbow). A child’s hand reaches toward the cards. Some cards are partially obscured.
A girl with glasses kneels on a blue carpet assembling a face on a magnetic board using small magnetic pieces. A clear plastic container of pieces is next to her. Classroom furniture legs are visible in the background.
A girl in a pink “PRINCESS” shirt arranges clear plastic letters and numbers on a glowing light box. Letters A–G and numbers 0–8 are visible on the light box. Many loose clear letters and numbers lie on the table.
A child sits in a light green beanbag chair reading a red book in a cozy classroom corner. A nearby bookshelf displays children’s books including “Watch Out!,” “Snowmen at Night,” “Little Leaders: Bold Women in Black History,” and “The Day You Begin.” The child appears focused on the book.
A child in a red hooded jacket sits on a light tile floor smiling and looking up. A clear plastic bin with small colorful beads and blue/red plastic letter shapes sits beside him. A wooden table and cinderblock wall are in the background.
A child points with a wooden ruler at a classroom number chart while sight-word cards above read words like “is,” “do,” “be,” “I,” “as,” “of,” “me,” “said,” “see,” and “from.” Each sight-word card shows two small heart symbols below. Shelving with classroom materials is nearby.
Overhead view of two girls at a table doing “Roll and Read” worksheets; one worksheet shows H-words like “Hug, Ham, Hot,” and the other shows blends like “brag, prod, crab.” Pencil boxes labeled “a” and “Jacob” and a white card with “J” are on the table. A red die rests on one worksheet.
Three children make art; a girl in a paint-splattered apron paints on a small easel while two other children work at a craft table with blocks and supplies. Paint and art materials are visible on the mat and table. The scene shows active, hands-on art exploration.
