Girls Cross Country

Head Coach Amanda Cooper’s Bio:
For the past five years, Coach Amanda Cooper has led both the girls varsity and junior varsity cross country teams with passion, dedication, and a mindset rooted in teamwork and community. A former competitive runner herself, Coach Cooper ran cross country in school and has continued her running journey as an adult, proudly completing multiple 5Ks, 10Ks, half marathons, and full marathons. Her personal experience as a lifelong runner allows her to relate deeply to her athletes’ goals, challenges, and drive.
Coach Cooper’s coaching philosophy centers on fostering a “family-like team” environment where each athlete feels supported, valued, and connected. She believes that when runners trust one another and invest in each other’s success, the team grows stronger both physically and mentally. Her athletes know they are part of something meaningful — a community built on encouragement, accountability, and shared purpose.
Combining structured, thoughtful training plans with a strong emphasis on character and confidence-building, Coach Cooper empowers her runners to push their limits, embrace adversity, and celebrate progress. Her leadership extends beyond the race course, as she focuses on developing well-rounded student-athletes who carry lessons of perseverance, resilience, and teamwork into every aspect of life.
Committed, compassionate, and competitive, Coach Amanda Cooper continues to guide the girls cross country program with pride, energy, and heart.
Assistant Coach Jennifer Brown’ Bio:
This is my third year as the assistant coach for the Cross Country team at GCHS. I am also a Social Studies teacher in my sixth year here. I currently teach Modern World History and AP Human Geography. I hold a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from the College of Charleston, both in education. I am currently pursuing my Doctorate of Education. When I am not at work or coaching, I enjoy spending time with my husband and two children. We are all avid runners, and frequently attend local races. In addition, I love to travel and experience new cultures.
