Dr. Martin L. Wright brings more than 27 years of educational leadership experience in public schools across South Carolina and Georgia. Appointed principal of CLS on April 20, 2026, for the 2026–2027 school year, he is dedicated to fostering academic excellence, strong leadership, and continuous improvement.

A graduate of Claflin University, Dr. Wright earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and later completed a Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership at Columbia International University. Recognized as a transformational leader, he is known for building trust, inspiring shared vision, promoting collaboration, and developing future leaders. His commitment to excellence and a culture of care helps empower students, staff, and communities to thrive.

Dr. Batkins joined the BCSD community on August 10, 2017 as a science and social studies teacher at Cane Bay Middle. He previously served DD4 as a science and technology teacher in addition to coaching Lego Robotics. Prior to helping open CLS, he was an assistant principal at Hanahan Middle School. Dr. Batkins received his Bachelor's Degree from Mississippi State University in Elementary Education, his Master's in Educational Administration from The Citadel, and his Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Charleston Southern University.

Dr. Batkins’s primary goal is to ensure that every child and their family feels supported, valued, and inspired. He is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and nurturing environment that promotes academic excellence, character development, and a love for learning. Dr. Batkins feels incredibly fortunate to be a part of a school environment where students can thrive, explore their passions, and reach their full potential. He is eager to continue on this exciting journey together and make The Carolyn Lewis School a place where dreams are nurtured, and futures are shaped.

Jamie Fox is currently serving The Carolyn Lewis School as the Upper School Assistant Principal. She is coming from Sedgefield Middle School where she served as an Assistant Principal. Prior to her time at Sedgefield, she worked for the Charleston County School District as the ML Instructional Coach for all secondary schools. She has taught Spanish to students in grades 6-8 in Brooklyn, NY, as well as served as the ESOL Department Chair at Stratford High School for seven years.

She holds a bachelor's degree in Adolescent Education with concentrations in French and Spanish from the State University of New York at Fredonia. She also holds two master’s degrees in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from the State University of New York at Cortland and Secondary School Administration and Supervision from Charleston Southern University.
