Carolyn Lewis School families are invited to come out to the school on Tuesday, July 14 to meet the school’s new principal, Dr. Martin Wright.
Dr. Martin Wright joins Carolyn Lewis School with a strong commitment to academic excellence, student achievement and collaborative leadership. As an experienced educational leader, with 29 years served in education, Dr. Wright is excited to enter his new administrative role in Berkeley County School District.
Dr. Wright studied Elementary Education at Claflin University. He received his Master of Education degree in Technology from Lesley University. Additionally, he attained his Education Specialist in Administration and Supervision degree through Lincoln Memorial University, and also has a doctorate in Organizational Leadership through Columbia International University.
Dr. Wright’s background includes experience teaching at both the elementary and middle school levels. He has served school districts in South Carolina and Georgia throughout his extensive career. In addition to teaching, Dr. Wright has demonstrated exceptional leadership at the school and district levels; he most recently served two years as Assistant Superintendent for Operational Management in Colleton County School District from 2024 to 2026.
Dr. Wright aims to support the mission and vision established by his new school’s namesake, Carolyn Lewis.
“Just as she fostered strong community partnerships and collaborative leadership, I am committed to building meaningful relationships with our students, families, staff and community stakeholders,” he said. “Together, we will continue her legacy by creating a culture of excellence, innovation, and opportunity for every child.”
Dr. Wright added, “We will work hand-in-hand to establish Carolyn Lewis School as a premier K–8 educational model in South Carolina and a place where every student is empowered to learn, lead and thrive.”
