Dr. Marion Baird has been named the first principal of Bee Tree Elementary, which will open its doors to students in August 2026. Dr. Baird brings an impressive 25+ years of experience in education to this exciting role. Currently serving as the principal of Carolyn Lewis School, Baird previously served Berkeley County School District (BCSD) as the Executive Director of Elementary Schools and the Executive Director of Academics and Innovation.
“Dr. Baird’s track record in creating positive, inclusive school environments coupled with his experience opening and assuming leadership of new schools will undoubtedly set the tone for Bee Tree Elementary’s success,” said BCSD Superintendent Dr. Anthony Dixon. “He is committed to leading the development of a school culture where every student is supported and challenged to meet their full potential. His expertise in curriculum and leadership will be critical in building a strong foundation for this new school community.”
Dr. Baird's career began in the classroom, where he taught middle school social studies in Newark, New Jersey, before transitioning to teach elementary reading and gifted education in Dorchester District Two. He later moved into leadership roles, serving as an assistant principal, principal, and assistant director of elementary schools in Dorchester Dorchester District Two. Dr. Baird joined Berkeley County School District (BCSD) in August 2021, serving as the Executive Director of Academics and Innovation, before transitioning to the role of Executive Director of Elementary Schools. In November 2024, Dr. Baird assumed leadership of Carolyn Lewis School.
Dr. Baird holds a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) from Nova Southeastern University, a Master of Education from The Citadel, and a Bachelor of Science from Charleston Southern University.
"I am deeply honored to help lay the foundation for Bee Tree Elementary,” said Dr. Bair. “With excitement, vision, and purpose, I pledge to support our students, faculty, staff, families, and community as we build a school where every child is known, valued, and encouraged.”
Dr. Baird will continue his principal leadership at Carolyn Lewis School through the end of the current school year, while also supporting the final stages of planning and preparations for the opening of Bee Tree Elementary in August 2026.
Baird added, “By working collaboratively through listening, learning, and holding high expectations, we will ensure that each student discovers their strengths and reaches their fullest potential. I am excited to begin this journey with you and to watch the bright futures that will grow from this place."
