Olivia McKelvey with Doodle for Google

Congratulations to Carolyn Lewis School's Olivia McKelvey on being one of the 55 state and territory winners of the Doodle for Google contest!

While CLS art teacher Elizabeth Ellis normally gives the Doodle for Google assignment to her students during the spring semester, it is completely voluntary for the students to submit their designs. McKelvey's confidence told her to take the chance, and she is Ellis's third BCSD student to win the statewide award.

Since this year is Google's 25th birthday, the prompt for the doodle was "My wish for the next 25 years..." McKelvey submitted a colored-pencil drawing of a city landscape encased by bubbles because she hopes in the future everyone lives in their own bubble in space.

For being the statewide winner, McKelvey was surprised by her parents and the Google team during a 7th grade school assembly and was gifted a brand new HP Google Chromebook.

What now? McKelvey's design now goes on to represent South Carolina at the national level!

The public is invited to vote for their favorite Doodle at doodle4google.com to help determine who will become one of five national finalists, one of whom will be Google’s national winner. You can find McKelvey's work listed in the Grades 6-7 group.

The National Winner’s artwork will be displayed on Google.com for one day. He or she will also receive a $55,000 college scholarship, a $50,000 technology package for their school and other Google swag.

Vote, vote, vote!
