Cross High is excited to introduce the school community to its new principal, Dr. Toshawnka Mahone.
Cross High families are invited to come out to the school on Wednesday, Aug. 5 for a special meet and greet event with the school’s new principal. More information is below.
Dr. Mahone was a math major at the College of Charleston, and has a Master of Education degree in Secondary School Administration through Charleston Southern University. She also received her Education Specialist degree in superintendency through The Citadel’s graduate program. She went on to attain her doctorate in Systems Improvement Science through Clemson University.
Dr. Mahone has worked in education for 28 years, most of which was served in Charleston County School District; five were served in Georgetown County. She has a teaching background in high school math.
After serving as an assistant principal in Charleston County from 2007 to 2012, Dr. Mahone joined Northwoods Middle as the Associate Principal of Curriculum and Instruction before transitioning to her first principal role at the school in 2013. During her time at the school, Northwoods Middle celebrated receiving the South Carolina At-Risk Innovative Grant for overage students, geared toward closing achievement gaps and raising student achievement. In 2016, Dr. Mahone entered a new role as the Alternative School Program Director/Principal of Septima P. Clark Academy. She then joined Andrews High School in Andrews, S.C. as principal.
Dr. Mahone is not only joining BCSD as an administrator, but as a former district parent; her two children both graduated from Goose Creek High.
“With my own two kids being products of Berkeley County, I know what BCSD has to offer,” she said. “I am excited to join that and be a part of it.”
Cross High will welcome families on Aug. 5 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for a drop-in to meet Dr. Mahone. Light refreshments will be served.
