Cross families are invited to come out to the school on Tuesday, July 28 to meet the school’s new principal, Ms. Christal Stevens.

Stevens studied Elementary Education at Claflin University. She attained her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Concordia University and is currently working on her doctorate through Liberty University.

Stevens started her education career as a sixth grade English/language arts teacher in Calhoun County before joining Berkeley County School District in 2011. After devoting more than a decade of service in the classroom as a fifth grade teacher at Cross Elementary, Stevens served as an administrative assistant at Boulder Bluff Elementary and then transitioned into her role as assistant principal at Carolyn Lewis School in 2024.

Stevens is excited to start her first year as principal by returning to Cross Elementary this school year.

"Having spent 12 years here as a teacher,” she said. “I know firsthand the special spirit of this school and community. I am excited to partner with our students, staff, and families as we work together to create a year filled with growth, achievement, and meaningful connections.”

Stevens added, “Families can look forward to a school year focused on high expectations, strong relationships, and celebrating every child's success as we continue blooming into excellence.”

The school will host an ice cream social on July 28. Families are invited to come get the “scoop” with Stevens. This is a very casual, drop-in style event; the school will receive families from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
