The BMS School Improvement Council (SIC) is an advisory council to the principal that is focused on school improvement issues. It is made up of representatives of parents, teachers, and community members. The principal serves as an ex-officio member. The SIC meets at least monthly during the school year.

BMS parent representatives are nominated and elected by their fellow BMS parents. Any parent/guardian of at least one child enrolled in BMS is eligible to place his/her own name or the name of another parent in nomination.

Parent representatives are elected to a term of two years. If a parent has a child enrolled in the 8th grade at BMS for the current school year and will not have any child enrolled the following year, that parent is elected to a term of one year only.

A representative of the SIC will contact all individuals whose names are submitted into
nomination prior to the election to confirm acceptance of the nomination. Nominees will be invited to submit a brief statement about themselves and why they want to serve on the SIC. All statements received will be placed on the ballot so that voters will have a
chance to get to know each of the candidates.

Nominations are due October 8th!

🦌 Math in Action at Berkeley Middle School! 🦌 Today, Mrs.Kessler's mathematicians were putting their integer operation skills to work! Students rotated through themed math stations where they practiced adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing integers while working collaboratively with their teams. Instead of simply completing problems, students were solving, explaining their thinking, checking one another’s work, and tackling Boss Challenges. Some even became math detectives as they moved around the classroom searching for clues! The goal? Learn the math, talk about the math, and prove their thinking. ➕➖✖️➗

checking our answers helps us learn how to agree or disagree with each other while stating why we think it !
Students went on the Buck Trail as they worked together to hunt for clues in this integer station!
Students were in the focus zone of figuring out what they thought the correct application would be! They took turns explaining their thinking and how they solved the problems!
Students worked through dividing integers here, ordering quotients, and finding equivalent equations while justifying their thinking!
Can we solve it ? Yes we can!
Students showed they could make good choices and maintain their focus as they did different stations simultaneously!
Better together and stronger everyday when we work together!
Mrs.DeMonte's students were working on their portrait of a graduate skills in 6th grade Social Studies. 🌍 🧠Critical Thinking: Students analyzed a text to find key points for the 8 Features of the Indus Civilization 🗣️Collaboration: Students divided roles to work in small group 📢 Communication: Students presented their findings to the class. 🔁 Adaptability and Resilience: Public Speaking can be difficult, but they powered through and showed great determination to share what they have learned.

Mr. Fabian’s students wrapped up their lesson by completing an Exit Ticket on the equations of parallel and perpendicular lines! The Exit Ticket gave students an opportunity to show what they learned independently and helped us identify concepts that may need additional practice. Remember: Parallel lines have the same slope, while perpendicular lines have negative reciprocal slopes. Great work, Berkeley Bucks! Stronger Together. Better Everyday. We Are Berkeley Bucks!
