Alison Thornley has been named the new principal of Berkeley Middle College High School. 

Ms. Thornley is deeply rooted in Berkeley County, both as a proud Stratford High School alumna and as a dedicated educator with over 21 years of experience in the district. For the past four years, she has served as the principal of Marrington Middle School of the Arts. Prior to joining MMSOA, Thornley  served as an Assistant Principal at Stratford High School for six years and then transitioned to Hanahan High School serving eight years as the assistant principal. Thornley began her teaching career as a Social Studies teacher at Stratford High School where she coached volleyball, basketball, quest, and sponsored multiple club organizations.  

Reflecting on her new role, Thornley shared:

“Transitioning to a new school is always a meaningful experience, and I’m truly excited to join the Berkeley Middle College community. This is a unique opportunity to grow alongside both students and staff in a setting that prioritizes academic excellence and real-world readiness. I look forward to building strong relationships, supporting our shared goals, preparing students for real-life experiences, and celebrating our successes together.”

Thornley earned her degree in Sociology and Secondary Education from Francis Marion University, where she was a collegiate athlete, demonstrating the leadership and teamwork that continue to define her educational approach.
