Berkeley High students clinched second place in the state “We the People” competition on Dec. 11.

The event was a series of simulated congressional hearings where students acted as expert witnesses defending constitutional principles before a panel of educators, lawyers and judges. Teams prepared across six units covering U.S. history, government and civics, demonstrating deep understanding through reasoned arguments and fostering active citizenship.

Special recognition goes to Unit 6 — seniors Phillip Barre, Jace Dye, and Carlyshia Miller — which earned the "Most Effective Unit" award for the highest score in their class.

Berkeley High is currently the only school in the district participating in this rigorous statewide competition that encourages students to deepen their civic knowledge and skills.

Way to go, Berkeley!
