As advocates for all students, school counselors partner with other educators, parents, and community members to create a safe and caring environment in which all students in BCSD are empowered with the knowledge and skills to contribute as productive members of society.

School Counselor

Dr. Allison Brown began her education career in Texas, where she taught 5th and 6th grade before moving into school counseling. She spent three years as an elementary counselor and four years as a high school counselor in Harlingen, Texas before transferring to SC with her husband, Will, who was employed by the US Coast Guard. Dr. Brown was then hired at Stratford HS, where she spent 13 years before transferring to Berkeley Alternative School in 2016.

 Dr. Brown holds a BA in Psychology from The University of North Carolina at Wilmington, a MEd in Counseling Psychology from The University of Massachusetts at Boston, and an EdD in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. She is an award-winning author, past president of Tri-County Counseling Association, and has presented on the topic of mindfulness at the yearly BCSD conference.
