Now introducing Philip Simmons Elementary School’s REN Squad!
After reviewing over 150 applications, these 3rd and 4th grade students were selected to be members of our first ever Renaissance student team. We are so excited to have this team join together to help us spread positivity and build community throughout our school.
We would like to thank all our applicants!! It was extremely difficult to select only 16 students. We appreciate all the thoughtful responses provided. Be on the look out next school year for future opportunities for 3rd and 4th graders to join the REN Squad.

Third graders have been working with fractions, and today they had the opportunity to create posters to model their math!!

Fourth grade students from Mrs. Newton's class participated in the 2024 STEAM Gingerbread Challenge, creating a gingerbread model of Charleston that highlighted some of the goods and services in our area. They then participated in Zoom meetings with schools from Washington, Alabama, and Kansas learning about their cities and teaching them about ours.
Whether it was cooperating through the Candy Cane Olympics or creating uniquely designed penguin shirts to end a novel study, these third graders had a fun filled week of learning, laughs, and holiday joy!

Third graders spreading some holiday cheer!!

Second grade has been measuring items around the classroom using standard and nonstandard use of measurement!

Last Friday, kindergarten students celebrated National STEAM Day by visiting the Makerspace with Mrs. Zimmerman. They listened to the story, "There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Books," and then designed routes for their Bee Bots follow in order to retell the story!

🇺🇸Honoring Our Heroes at PSE’s Veterans Day Breakfast🇺🇸
Today, we had the privilege of hosting our Veterans Day Breakfast to honor the incredible veterans in our community. Thank you to all the veterans and guests who joined us this morning—we are deeply grateful for your service and sacrifice.
We’d also like to extend a special thank you to Mr. David Frazier, our dedicated PSE music teacher, for preparing our choir students for this special day, even though he couldn’t be with us in person. And a huge thank you to Ms. Abby Jones, PSM Band Director, for her beautiful direction of the band during today’s performance. Both performances truly added to the heart of our celebration.
Thank you to everyone who made this event possible, and to our veterans—your courage and commitment will always inspire us. #PSEVeteransDay #ThankYouVeterans #HonoringOurHeroes

These past few weeks, third graders worked hard to learn their lyrics and lines for our PSE Veteran's Day Show! Today, they had the opportunity to perform their show for our other PSE students. Way to go third grade, thank you for honoring our Veterans. ❤️🤍💙
