📚🔬 Sixth Grade Science & Library Collaboration!🔬📚
Ms. Graham, Ms. McCumiskey, and Mrs. Price partnered with Mrs. Courtney, school librarian, to strengthen their 6th grade science students' research skills! Students learned how to find reliable information using DISCUS, focusing on how and why to cite sources.
Students are now applying those skills by creating a Google Slides presentation highlighting Black History in STEM. Each student is researching an inventor or innovator who made an impact in science, technology, engineering, or math.
We love seeing critical thinking, digital literacy, and science come together! 👏✨

These Monarchs are turning pages at lightening speed! As the middle school with the most reading minutes logged on Beanstack for Q2, we were named a Berkeley Book Blast Star School and the Top 10 readers at MMSOA were presented with a BIG trophy to celebrate this achievement! Keep logging those minutes so we can keep our title in Q3!

📊📚 Math Meets Reading in the Library! 📚📊
Ms. Clark’s 7th grade GT Math classes partnered with the library for a meaningful (and cozy!) learning experience that brought numbers and books together. During a read-in, students tracked the number of minutes they read at set intervals and then used that data to create graphs.
From there, students will analyze their results to deepen their understanding of graphing, slope, and constant of proportionality (all using real reading data they collected themselves) when they return from winter break.
This cross-curricular collaboration showed students that math is everywhere… even between the pages of a good book! 📖

📚 Books & Blankets 📚 Our library read-ins—Books and Blankets—are some of our favorite moments! During these cozy sessions, all ELA classes spend a class period in the library, snuggled up with blankets, comfy spots, and a really good story. Students enjoyed slowing down, getting lost in their books, and logging their reading on Beanstack. We love watching our readers relax, recharge, and fall deeper in love with books! 💛

December Craft Corner Fun! Our December Craft Corner was full of creativity and laughter! Students and Staffulty enjoyed getting crafty as they made festive seasonal decorations, including pine cone pom-pom ornaments and canvas button art. It was such a joy to see everyone slow down, create, and connect while celebrating the season. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this gathering so special.
