Kelli Roberson was named Principal of Hanahan Middle in July of 2021, following the retirement of longtime Principal Robin Rogers.

Prior to being selected for the role, Mrs. Roberson was in BCSD's central office, serving as the interim executive of Academics and Innovation and district-level social studies coordinator.

Roberson previously taught sixth-grade language arts and social studies at College Park Middle for 10 years starting in 2001. She was named the school's Teacher of the Year in 2006, and then again in 2010, when she went on to be named District Teacher of the Year. In 2011, she was promoted to assistant principal at the school. For the 2007-2008 school year, she was named Berkeley County Distinguished Reading Teacher of the Year.

Roberson was named BCSD Assistant Principal of the Year in 2014.

Mr. Kevin A. Covington is a native of Bennettsville, SC.  He is a graduate of the University of South Carolina, earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in History, Master's in Teaching, and Education Administration.  He continued his education to earn an Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Wingate University.  

 Mr. Covington has served as an educator since 2014, beginning his career as a Social Studies teacher in Marlboro County School District.  He continued his career by serving as a STEM/GT/Technology Facilitator in Scotland County Schools (NC), a Curriculum/Technology Coach in Florence 1 Schools, and an Assistant Principal at Goose Creek Elementary and Sangaree Middle School. Currently, Mr. Covington is serving the Hawk family as an Assistant Principal.

 Mr. Covington is very passionate about increasing student achievement and enhancing teacher quality.  He is extremely excited to work collaboratively with the entire school community to empower our students to achieve excellence.

Kelly Owens is a native of Charleston, South Carolina, and attended Mars Hill University, where she played collegiate volleyball, and the College of Charleston. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from Liberty University.  

Ms. Owens joined the Hanahan Middle School team in 2019 as an Assistant Principal. She has thirty years of experience in education, with twenty of those years as a classroom teacher. Her experience includes being the Title I Facilitator at St. Stephen Middle, a  language arts teacher at both Berkeley Middle and James Island Middle, as well as a high school volleyball coach and official.

At Hanahan Middle, she works with teachers, students, and parents to support a positive learning environment to help students reach their full potential.

Mr. Matthews graduated with a B.S. in Elementary Education from Charleston Southern University.  He obtained his master's degree in elementary administration and supervision from The Citadel. Prior to coming to Hanahan Middle, Mr. Matthews was at College Park Middle since 1999.  At CPM, he was a 7th grade science and social studies teacher, the school's title one facilitator, data and technology coordinator, and most recently an assistant principal.
