Our 5th graders just had an amazing adventure! 🚀⚓️

We scored an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the mighty USS Yorktown at Patriots Point.

They walked the flight deck, explored the cabin, viewed the WWII B-25 bomber, and learned how this legendary aircraft carrier fought across the Pacific, recovered the Apollo 8 moon mission crew, and served our country for nearly 30 years.

The kids were wide-eyed the entire time — climbing ladders, imagining life at sea, and realizing history isn’t just in books… it’s something you can touch!

So proud of these future leaders. History came alive today!

⚓️Thank you, Patriots Point!⚓️

🎶 We’re bursting with pride! 🎶

Five amazing students from Howe Hall AIMS were selected for this year’s All County Chorus!

They spent two intense days rehearsing, learning beautiful songs, and this year they even added ukulele to the performance. The grand finale was a wonderful concert on Saturday afternoon.

These talented kids represented our school so beautifully — we couldn’t be prouder of them!

A huge thank you to Mrs. Liebenow for all her dedication and guidance. You make moments like this possible! ❤️

Our 3rd graders just wrapped up an amazing Artist-in-Residence experience with Dr. Maribeth Yoder-White, ArtsNOW’s Senior Music Consultant! 🎶📚✨

This special program integrated music with our English Language Arts standards, focusing on identifying explicit themes in literature, explaining how key details develop those themes, and exploring figurative language like metaphors, hyperbole, idioms—and even extending to similes, personification, alliteration, onomatopoeia, imagery, and more.

Students learned to recognize these elements in texts, understand their purpose in communicating deeper meaning, and then used music to interpret and express the themes and figurative language creatively. Through rhythmic activities, soundscapes, singing, and hands-on music-making, the kids brought stories to life in exciting new ways—boosting their understanding of ELA concepts while building creativity, collaboration, and confidence!

Dr. Yoder-White is a highly respected expert in music education and brings national-level expertise to programs like this through ArtsNOW.

We’re so grateful for this enriching opportunity that makes learning joyful and interconnected. Our 3rd graders are buzzing with new ideas and a deeper love for both music and reading!

Thank you, Dr. Yoder-White and ArtsNOW, for helping our students shine through the arts! 🌟🎤

Our 5th graders had an out-of-this-world experience last week in the StarLab portable planetarium! 🌌✨🚀

They dove deep into our Solar System, reviewing fascinating facts about the planets, exploring the unique features of those closest to us (like Earth’s perfect conditions for life, Mars’ red dust, or Jupiter’s massive storms), and even pondering big questions: What’s at the edges of our universe? How are stars born in glowing nebulae, and how do they dramatically die (as supernovas or black holes)?

The kids learned about constellations by hearing captivating stories behind them—perfect for connecting science with mythology and culture. Using advanced Astronomy software packed with a massive 3D database (including the Hipparcos and Tycho catalogs with over 16 million stars), detailed views of deep space objects from Messier, Caldwell, and NGC/IC catalogs, plus info on comets, asteroids, meteor showers, exoplanets, and high-res 360-degree panoramas of planets and moons—they got to see it all in stunning, immersive detail right inside the inflatable dome!

And the highlight? Each group enjoyed a special virtual visit with giraffes—a fun, surprising twist that brought a bit of Earth’s wildlife into our cosmic adventure (perhaps tying into how we observe and protect our own planet from space!).

It was an unforgettable way to spark curiosity about astronomy, space science, and the wonders of our universe—without leaving school. Our 5th graders left buzzing with questions and excitement!

Huge thanks to the StarLab program for making this magical learning possible. Who else dreams of exploring the stars? Drop a 🌟 if this inspires you!

What an exciting STEM adventure our students had this week! 🚀🔋✨

All our classes got to team up with amazing volunteers from the Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Atlantic for a hands-on paper circuits activity. The kids learned all about open and closed circuits, then built their own glowing creations using copper tape, LEDs (diodes), and button batteries. It was so cool to see the lights come on when they completed the circuit—pure magic and big smiles all around!

The NIWC volunteers (including software developers, team lead testers, and electrical engineers) shared inspiring stories about their careers supporting the Navy. Even though they work locally (right here in the Charleston area and beyond), their work helps solve real-world problems and supports Navy personnel out in the field every day. Our students were fascinated to hear how STEM skills power important missions!

A huge shout-out to our wonderful kinder and 1st grade parents who jumped in to help guide the little engineers through the project—your support made it even more special and successful. ❤️

Thank you to the NIWC Atlantic team for volunteering your time and expertise to spark curiosity and show our kids the real-world excitement of STEM. Moments like these inspire future innovators!

Who else loves seeing science light up (literally)? Drop a ⚡ if you’re excited about more hands-on learning!

Our kindergarten and 1st graders had a wonderful field trip yesterday to see Chicka Chicka Boom Boom: The Musical at the Gaillard Auditorium in Charleston! This delightful adaptation of the classic children’s book brought the alphabet letters to life with vibrant songs, energetic dancing, whimsical puppets, and lots of audience interaction—perfect for young learners exploring letters, sounds, rhythm, and reading in such a fun way.

The kids were thrilled watching the letters climb the coconut tree and tumble down in a colorful cascade of laughter and joy. It was an unforgettable experience that sparked excitement and smiles all around!

A huge thank you to the teachers, chaperones, and the Gaillard Center for making this magical outing possible. Moments like these are what make school so special. 🌴🍎🎭

Last week our first graders had the absolute BEST week ever as they welcomed the one-and-only Roger Day as our Artist in Residence! 🎶✨

The kids dove right in, learning and belting out some of Mr. Day’s most popular hits—like the hilarious ‘Mosquito Burrito’ and the silly ‘It’s a No-No to Kiss a Rhino.’ But the real magic happened when all four first-grade classes teamed up to write their OWN original songs! They poured in their creativity, and last Friday they proudly performed them for our kindergarten and second graders. The smiles, the energy, the pure joy—our firsties absolutely shone! 👏❤️

Huge shoutout to the incredible Roger Day for inspiring our young musicians. As an award-winning children’s artist, Roger has spent his career sparking imagination with his signature wit, whimsy, and wordplay. From ‘Roly Poly’ to ‘Parachute Girl,’ his songs celebrate kids’ intelligence and big dreams—and he always reminds us to ‘sing loud, jump high, dream big!’

Thank you, Mr. Day, for making music come alive in our school. And to our amazing first graders: we’re so proud of you! Keep singing, jumping, and dreaming BIG! 🌟

Wow—what an unforgettable day for our second graders! 🌿🦎🐊

Today, our students got to dive into a super exciting hands-on science lesson with Camp Leopold, an amazing in-school science program that’s fully aligned with South Carolina’s Career Ready Science Standards. Thanks to their generous corporate sponsors and donors, they bring expert instructors right to our school for engaging, grade-level-tailored lessons on ecosystems, wildlife, and environmental stewardship.

The highlight? Meeting their incredible animal ambassadors up close! The kids were thrilled to interact with a beautiful corn snake, a baby alligator, and a turtle. You could see the wonder and curiosity light up their faces as they learned about conservation and these fascinating creatures firsthand. How cool is that?! 😍
