Counseling Services

Hello and welcome to the H. E. Bonner Elementary School Counseling page!

Mission and Vision:

In Berkeley County School District and at Bonner Elementary School, it is our mission to implement a comprehensive school counseling program to assist students, families, teachers, administrators and other school staff in facilitating and supporting student-driven learning experiences. We will help our students create a future we dare to imagine and make a positive difference.

School Counseling Program: Professional school counselors are advocates, leaders, collaborators and consultants who create opportunities for equity in access and success in educational opportunities by connecting the guidance program to the mission of HBE.

The comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program at HBE is an essential component of the total instructional program, which provides all students the opportunity for optimum development.

The guidance program at HBE includes structured experiences presented systematically through individual, small group and large group activities. The program emphasizes choice making, self-understanding, career exploration and preparation, and the improvement of study skills.

Individual counseling assists the students to plan, monitor, and manage their own academic achievement as well as their personal and career development.

Consultation with parents, teachers, and other professionals, is also one of my duties.

The Professional School Counselor's Responsibility to Students

The professional school counselor:
a. Has a primary obligation to the student, who is to be treated with respect as a unique individual.

b. Is concerned with the educational, academic, career, personal and social needs and encourages the maximum development of every student.

c. Respects the student’s values and beliefs and does not impose the counselor’s personal values.

d. Is knowledgeable of laws, regulations and policies relating to students and strives to protect and inform students regarding their rights.

Confidentiality

The professional school counselor:

Keeps information confidential unless disclosure is required to prevent clear and imminent danger to the student or others or when legal requirements demand that confidential information be revealed.

Recognizes his/her primary obligation for confidentiality is to the student but balances that obligation with an understanding of the legal and inherent rights of parents/guardians to be the guiding voice in their children’s lives.

Our Character Education Program at Bonner is called, "Terrific Kid."  This is a wonderful program that rewards Character Virtues that the students demonstrate in their classes, such as Honesty, Perseverance, Respect, and Responsibility.  Teachers in grades K4-5 select the student in his/her class that they feel best exemplifies a particular trait.  We have a party at the end of the month with special treats and gifts, sponsored by the Moncks Corner Kiwanis Club.

Mrs. Brittany Frankel

Hello everyone!

My name is Brittany Frankel. This is my sixth year as a school counselor here at Bonner Elementary. I am truly enjoying every minute of it! I love having the opportunity to work with all of the students, staff, parents, and the community as a whole. We strive in the guidance department to provide a safe and nurturing environment so that all students have the opportunity to succeed and enjoy their time here. I attended The University of South Carolina and obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work. I also attended graduate school at The Citadel where I worked to receive my Master's Degree in Elementary School Counseling.

If you have any questions about the counseling program, or if I can help you in any way, please do not hesitate to email or give me a call!

Sincerely,

Brittany Frankel

About the Program

At Bonner Elementary, we recognize students monthly as a part of the district's Character Education program. We use Terrific Kids, sponsored by the Moncks Corner Kiwanis Club! Each month, students are selected by their class. At the end of the month, we treat all our Terrific Kids to a party in the cafeteria! They get a snack (courtesy of Bonner's wonderful cafeteria staff), a pencil, a bumper sticker, and a coupon book for local businesses and restaurants (courtesy of Kiwanis). Thank you Kiwanis!
