SIC Norms (Mrs. Leigh presented and opened meeting up for suggestions)

Norms were established (time, comments, hand raising, sharing agenda items)
Time will be allotted to each agenda item (5-10 minutes) and meeting facilitator will notify the group when it’s time to move to the next item
Anything on the agenda that is not covered during the meeting due to time will be pushed to the next meeting’s agenda
If you would like anything added to the agenda, please email the SIC chair

DIS News (Mrs. Leigh shared)

No Tech Tuesday was a success!

Lots of student collaboration and teachers did a great job preparing
Will be done schoolwide once a month

Clubs/Events

Starting small clubs again and students are made aware of them by watching the morning DIS news and classroom announcements
Safety and spacing is still a priority
Parents will be allowed to come to special club events
Parents were asked to please check school emails and newsletters for information on how your child can join and participate
The Character Parade will be held this year and parents can attend. Parents will stand outside along the bus loop to watch. More information will be shared soon!

DIS Anti-bullying Campaign (Mrs. Aarons shared)

Students in grades 3-7 are participating next week in an anti-bullying virtual program - #notolerancebullying
8th grade students are taking the PSAT during this time so they are completing an Honor Code program online against bullying

Teacher/Parent/Student Survey Results (Mrs. Leigh and Mrs. Aarons shared)

Mrs. Leigh shared the questions and percentage results for student safety and student engagement
These results will be reported on the SC report card for DIS
DIS staff has discussed the results and are focusing on improving parent communication and positive recognition
Teachers are now using Review 360, which is a positive referral system that is emailed to parents when their child is recognized
Mrs. Aarons shared the results of the needs assessment she gives to students in grades 6-8 that is used to help drive school improvement
For the question “How do you feel about coming to school?” - 17 said “not so good” while the rest said “ok” or “great”
83% of students said they were not bullied last year; 8.7% were not at the school last year; 8.3% said they were bullied last year (22 students)
87.5% of students said they like coming to school at DIS; 3.8% were not sure (new students); 8.7% said no

PTA News (Erica Woodward shared)

New shade structure for the playground will be installed in the Spring
Orlando’s spirit night - 10% of proceeds go to the PTA
Teacher grant campaign is underway. So far, 23 teachers have participated
10/29 is the Halloween Bash from 5-7pm
POA and PTA is sponsoring the luminaries again this year on 12/9 from 5:30-7:30
Next PTA meeting is 11/4 at 6:30 and superintendent Deon Jackson will attend

Testing and iReady (Ms. Griffin shared all dates)

In August, kindergarten students took the reading readiness assessment
iReady is a new system our district is using for more personalized instruction
Testing window is now open through 10/17
Next SIC meeting we can discuss how we will use the data
Reports will be sent home with report cards
PSAT is 10/13 for 8th grade students
CogAT/IOWA assessment will be next week and the following for all second graders. Assessment is for gifted and talented
OLSAT for students in grades 3-10 will be open from 11/8-12/3. Testing days have not been established yet because the district must send a list of students being tested
