LaToya King was named Principal of Cross Elementary in July of 2021. She follows in the footsteps of longtime Principal Dr. Carolyn Myers-Gillens. Dr. Myers-Gillens spent approximately 35 years in the role before retiring at the conclusion of the 2020-2021 school year.
Prior to acccepting the role at CES, Mrs. King was the Principal at Philip Simmons Elementary STEAM School. She joined PSE when it opened in 2016 and was named Principal in 2019.
Ms. King has been an educator for more than 20 years. She began her teaching career in Greenville County and taught first, third, fourth, and fifth grades. In 2007, she returned home to Berkeley County and taught third and fourth grades. In addition to assistant principal and principal roles, she's had other expererience outside the classroom as well as a Title I facilitator, curriculum coach and administrative assistant.
She received her BS degree in Elementary Education from Winthrop University and her Master’s degree in Leadership and Supervision from The Citadel.
Ms. King loves teaching and leading others in the district in which she grew up. Her greatest joy is knowing that her three children are now receiving an education in the same district.
