Last week, our Guidance Counselor Director, Mrs. Glaze, helped students experience a part of Hispanic Heritage Month with a taste-testing cart that she rolled around throughout the day! This was one of many activities that she planned to help students celebrate across the school!

Come join us for a great Community Event on Tuesday, October 28th!

Our very own 8th grader, Harmony, has successfully auditioned for the Region 4 Orchestra and earned an impressive 4th chair ranking!
This is a major accomplishment: it means Harmony ranks among the best student musicians from orchestra programs across Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Hampton, Jasper, and Orangeburg counties.
Harmony is only the second student in SRM history to achieve this high honor. Even more impressively, she prepared almost all of her audition music independently, with very little help.
Way to go!

MUSC's therapy dog, Marcel, came to visit some of our students at SRM on Friday. He was a major hit!

Last week, Cane Bay High graduate, Zailie Chapman, donated school supplies to Sangaree Middle School. She helped raise and collect these supplies as part of the Miss SC/America's International Miss program which uses the motto: "Love, Lead, Serve". We are thankful for her leadership and service and what it will mean for the students of SRM!

Today, Sangaree Middle remembers. Our Media Center has many students reviewing documents from that day to determine if they are primary or secondary resources, thereby creating a combination of learning and history.

This week, Mrs. Beaver (our new Media Specialist) took the Sangaree Middle News Team on a trip to Live 5 News! Students got a behind the scenes tour and learned about different jobs in the news sector while spending time on the set!

Hello Sangaree Families! We are excited to invite you to our upcoming Open House! This family-friendly, drop-in event gives students and parents the chance to walk their schedules, visit classrooms, and explore the campus. The date and time are included on the attached flier! Be sure to follow us on social media for updates!

What a Superior Orchestra!
On Wednesday, March 19, the Sangaree Middle School 7th & 8th Grade Orchestra, led by Mrs. Rachel DePriest, performed at the South Carolina Music Educators Association Concert Performance Assessment and earned a SUPERIOR rating! SRM's Orchestra Performed at a Grade III.
While at CPA, the students performed "Accents" by Robert S. Frost, "Night Shift" by Richard Meyer, and "Jupiter" by Gustav Holst, arranged by Deborah Baker Monday for a panel of 3 judges. Following this, the students went to a sight-reading room where they had 10 minutes to review a piece of music they had never seen or heard before. During these 10 minutes, students are not permitted to make any sounds on their instruments. At the end of the 10 minutes, they must perform the music for a judge. In both rooms, the ensemble is adjudicated on intonation, tone, rhythm, musical expression, performance position and formal presentation. We are incredibly proud of the strong orchestra program that we have at SRM!
For more information about the orchestra, including joining orchestra, reach out to Mrs. DePriest at depriestr@bcsdschools.net #wearesangaree
