child sampling food at 2025 event

Berkeley County School District is excited to welcome families to the “Taste, Play, Connect, Educate” event happening in March!

Last year, BCSD’s Child Nutrition Services hosted a day of family fun that doubled as a chance for students to help determine what food items should be served in the cafeteria.

Now Child Nutrition Services has joined forces with BCSD’s Office of Student Support Services and Office of Federal Programs to make the event even bigger and better this year.

This event is being provided at no-cost to BCSD families at Cane Bay High on Saturday, March 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Students will get to participate in a free food tasting experience and cast their vote on which food menu items they liked the best and want to see featured in their school cafeterias. More than a dozen different food vendors will have stations set up in Cane Bay’s cafeteria and present various food items for students to sample (parents are also allowed to sample, but only students are allowed to vote!).

In addition to the food tasting, there will be bounce houses, music and grand prizes announced every hour. Lots of exhibitors are participating to provide BCSD families with district and community resources.

Students will also get to enjoy a petting zoo on-site provided by Crosswind Farm, and BCSD’s iTow truck will be ready to introduce students to all things STEAM-related. Charleston County Sheriff’s Office will even have a helicopter for students to explore.

The CARES Clinic will offer all Department of Public Health school-required vaccines during the event (optional, not mandatory) for students eligible for the Vaccines for Children program. Parental consent is required. If interested, please call 843-567-3128 ext. 1014 to make a profile with CARES and see if students are eligible to participate.
