St. Stephen Middle is eager to introduce Chris Thurman as the school’s new principal for the upcoming school year.
Families are encouraged to come out to the school on Wednesday, Aug. 5 for an ice cream social and meet Mr. Thurman. The ServiceMaster ice cream truck will be on site to hand out ice cream from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Thurman studied elementary education at Clemson University. He holds a Master of Education degree in Administration and Supervision from Southern Wesleyan University. He is expected to earn his doctorate in Educational Leadership this fall through Gardner-Webb University.
Thurman’s education career spans 15 years, with eight spent in Berkeley County School District. He taught math at Charleston Charter School for Math and Science between 2011 and 2018. He was named Teacher of the Year for the school in 2015.
Thurman then served as the assistant principal at Philip Simmons Middle for seven years before transitioning to his first principal role at Berkeley Middle last year.
Thurman said he is excited for the opportunity to work with and in the St. Stephen community.
“I already feel welcomed by the students and staff members I've had the privilege to meet so far, and look forward to continuing to build on current successes to take our RAMily to the next level,” he said.
