Preparation + Determination=Growth

Our students are making gains in math! For the 2025-2026 school year, our SC Ready Math scores increased by 7.2 percent. According to the South Carolina Department of Education, this makes us the school district with the third-highest growth in SC Ready Math scores in the state!

Also, have you been receiving phone calls from SSE about completing returning student registration? If you have NOT, that means your child is not registered at all. This often happens for students transitioning to K4 or Kindergarten. If you aren't sure please call the school and ask! We are in the building everyday until 3:30.

Eating school lunch...even in the summer - pays off!! Two lucky students won an iPad and gift card just for eating some delicious food! You have to keep an eye on food services - they are always trying to give away great gifts!!

St. Stephen Elementary will be offering breakfast and lunch to all children and teens for free. Breakfast will be served from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Lunch will be served from 10:30 a.m. to noon - Monday through Friday until July 24!

Congratulations to Ms. Bowens and her class! Ms. Bowens received a district "Golden Nugget" Award for exceptional scores on the iReady Math Test! Ms. Bowens is such an amazing teacher! We are happy she is at SSE!

Here are some sweet third grade moments with our garden this year ! (and YES this is a DIFFERENT garden than the sensory garden posted earlier!) Third grade has planted zinnias, marigolds, snapdragons, and green beans by seed. We also have planted tomatoes, lettuce, strawberries, kale, and bell peppers. Our class has learned how to compost. The kids have taken their leftovers/scraps from lunch to put in our compost bin. It has turned into a beautiful soil that they used today to mix with some other soil. They filled and decorated pots for our teachers! Inside the pots, they planted tomatoes that they grew from our compost bin. Each teacher received their very own tomato plant!
