On Tuesday 12/5, Coach Stewart, Coach Johnson, and Mr. Boughter took some of their Marine Science students to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources Marine Resources division at Fort Johnson. Students were taken out on the EV (Educational Vessel) Discovery where a pod of dolphins were spotted immediately once the boat got out of the slip. All were then taken across Charleston Harbor to the Crab bank where a tow with a small trawl net netted some cool organisms like stripped burrfish, squid, anchovies, small snappers and even a sea robin. Once the boat returned to land students were treated to some oyster shells where they got to dig around for some small crabs and amphipods. The trip gave students a small dose into the life of a wildlife biologist here in Charleston and exposed them to some of the things we have discussed in class this semester.
