Get ready to travel the globe — right from the school cafeteria.
The week of Oct. 13 is National School Lunch Week, an annual celebration that is held the second full week of October. The week promotes the importance of school lunches and how they impact student health and academic success.
This year’s theme is “Taste the World: Your School Lunch Passport” and Berkeley County School District’s Child Nutrition Services team has some special activities in store for students.
Students and staff will get to explore diverse foods and cultures through their school meals. Each day will feature new flavors from around the world, giving everyone a chance to expand their taste buds.
Getting lunch at school can also earn students the chance to win some prizes that week; Child Nutrition Services was able to score some fun items to give out using Cool School points. Students should be aware of the following opportunities to win prizes:
Throughout the week, daily prizes will be given out at each school.
Big prizes include laptops, iPads, scooters, projectors and more.
One “Big Winner” per School will be drawn at the end of the week. Parents will be notified the following week. Prizes and pictures will be done at the school.
Students are encouraged to eat a school lunch every day during National School Lunch Week to increase their chances of taking home a big prize.
