On December 12, Berkeley County School District broke ground on a new middle school in the Nexton area. Superintendent Dixon, several members of the BCSD school board and special guests attended the ceremony.

Attendees were treated to a holiday performance from Nexton Elementary and a hot cocoa bar provided by Brookfield Properties at the event.

Dr. Dixon noted during his remarks that the third graders in NES's performance would be some of the first students through the doors when the new school opens in August 2026. Dr. Dixon added that a middle school for the Nexton community was chosen after receiving input from the community, the developers and reviewing our county's demographic data.

"Our voters approved the penny sales tax, and we're making a positive difference by adding another state-of-the-art school to this great district," Dixon said.
